We often criticise football's academy system in general, especially where the Premier League and its appalling B-team proposition is concerned. However, only thirty-three young players from over 1,200 are selected for 'The 11' each season, and three of them this season have come from Lincoln City alone - Gianluca Bucci in November, Sam Long in March, and now Ziyad. Considering that Jordan Adebayo-Smith was also included in December 2018, that is an incredible achievement by the players concerned and by the Lincoln City Academy and its coaches. And when we consider the struggle for existence that faced the Academy throughout the non-league years, even more so.
