I'm unsure, I'd go to a recognised retailer personally. Thought I'd ask as I know the likes of @HeathfieldRoad1874 are good with this sort of thing.

I bought mine from an e bay shop. What he needs to do is save everything he wants to keep because before when loading10 its deletes all trace of 8. They send an e mail or message with the key.
 
You an use something called Microsoft Toolkit to activate Windows 10. I'll PM a link, seeing as technically it's not quite legit.

This does mean installing windows 10 manually, however. You need to download the files from the link below, using the "Download tool now" button. Install the tool and run it.

This gives you and option to create what's called an ISO file. Do this, the if you double click on it, it should mount, which means you have a new drive letter in File Explorer. In this new drive should be a setup file, which you double click and follow the instructions.

It seems a bit of a faff, but it's not too bad.
