I know very little on betting but correct me if im wrong but is he betting 100 grand for the chance to win 86k?

If so, where's the logic?

He gets his 100G's back as well as 86G's minus tax. So he makes huge money.The same with the second bet
 
The thing is that he most likely does this on a regular basis and will eventually lose everything he has got and end up on Skid Row , how many other wealthy sportsmen have done the same like .
