Swansea v Hull Saturday 25 Nov 15:00

After the disappointing defeat at Ipswich last time out and yet another International break its a welcome return to league football next Saturday and a home game against Hull.

Another tough game coming up with Hull riding high on 26 points, outside the last play-off spot only on goal difference.

The Tigers under Liam Rosenior and with a healthy transfer budget were expected to be in or around the play-offs this season and so it’s turning out. Danger man for Hull is Liam Delap, the on-loan striker from Man City, he scored his fifth goal of the season in their home win over Huddersfield last match.

Signings include left-winger Jaden Philogene £5.8m from Aston Villa, centre-forward Aaron Connelly £1.35m from Brighton, plus undisclosed fees for goalkeeper Ryan Allsop from Cardiff, right-winger Jason Lokilo from Sparta Rotterdam, defensive-midfielder Xavier Simons from Chelsea, and left back James Furlong from Brighton. Add-on their five loan players and they’ve got a new starting eleven.

Meanwhile Swans languish down near the bottom in 17th place, after 16 games, on 19 points, and it’s been a disappointing season so far under new head-coach Michael Duff.

Injuries haven’t helped but also some of the new players brought in with high expectations are just not good enough. We are missing the goals of Piroe up front and the failure to sign an adequate replacement must be rectified in the next transfer window. Also a decent winger to replace the long-term injured Ginnelly is needed if we are to rescue our season from mediocrity.

And if you can’t wait to watch the Swans in action the female version is on display this afternoon as the now semi-professional Swans Women take on Wrexham Women in the Adrian Premier League at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Its a top of the table clash, Wrexham are 2nd in the table and Swansea 3rd.

The match is being shown live on S4C at 17:10.

The reverse fixture produced plenty of goals, a 3-3 draw, here are the highlights

Today’s teams:

Swans: Carl Rushworth, Jay Fulton, Ben Cabango, Matt Grimes (c), Jerry Yates, Jamal Lowe, Jamie Paterson, Josh Tymon, Harrison Ashby, Ollie Cooper, Bashir Humphreys.

Subs: Andy Fisher, Josh Key, Harry Darling, Charlie Patino, Nathan Tjoe-A-On, Kyle Naughton, Liam Walsh, Cameron Congreve, Kyrell Wilson.

Tigers: Ryan Allsop, Lewie Coyle (c), Jacob Greaves, Alfie Jones, Sean McLoughlin, Ozan Tufan, Tyler Morton, Liam Delap, Jaden Philogene, Jean Michael Seri, Scott Twine.

Subs: Matt Ingram, Greg Docherty, Allahyar Sayyadmanesh, Harry Vaughan, Jason Lokilo, James Furlong, Andy Smith, Cyrus Christie, Aaron Connolly.

Swansea 2 (Paterson 17’, Yates 23’) - Hull 2 (Philogene 48’, Morton 68’)

A two goal cushion at half-time was not enough and we blew it again. Sixteen points have now been lost after taking the lead in games.

I said at the break that if Hull get a quick goal we’ll crumble and so it turned out. Wrong formation, wrong tactics.

We started with a back four and ended with a back three which left us wide open on the wings with our wing-backs too far forward. Darling filling in at right-back after Ashby went off with a hamstring injury.

Substitute and ex-Swan loanee Cyrus Christie set up their fast left-winger, ex-Cardiff loanee Philogene, who was left unmarked to run in and score at the near post within three minutes of the restart.

A goal from Delap on the hour was ruled offside but soon after the second goal came, this time from the right-wing, Christie unmarked to cross for Morton to fire home.

Two wins in nine home games this season is just not good enough and our fans are starting to drift away, only 14.8k attendance today.
