Average Touch Map:

Our average touch map for the full 90 minutes, starting players only - suggests we setup with a 4-2-3-1 shape but in terms of formation, it was flexible and with rotations it's difficult to determine a set formation.

Celina was actually operating in either inside channel, shifting left to right and so his average position was actually a central one.

I was surprised that Naughton averaged a higher position overall compared to Roberts but he did push further forward in the 2nd half.

This touch map shows the 2nd half averages, the dotted line acts as a comparison to their first half average position with the aim to show tactical movement/changes of position, as well as how the team compared 1st half-2nd half - did either side move further forward in the 2nd half?

Dan James move to the left wing didn't work. He played deeper and we had no presence through the middle as CBR came on and played on the right of a front 3 with McKay now in James' place in the middle.

Pitch Gain

This shows the pitch gain from successful passes - in other words - how much of the pitch (in percentage) was gained from successful forward passes. Negative gain (red zones) = backwards successful passes. The darker - the higher gain value (negative or positive).

The zones on the pitch are based on where the passes were played from. For example, if Matt Grimes plays a 50-yard sideways pass - the actual pitch gain will be really low. A long, vertical pass - gain will be a lot higher.

The red zones were mainly in Swansea's right back area = passes were mainly played backwards in this area.

We also had problems moving the ball forward down the left wing inside Norwich's half.

Swansea pressed Norwich tightly, blocking them in a corner in their left back position which the pitch gain map shows. Norwich also played passes backwards mostly in attacking right wing positions.

We faded badly second half. Did Norwich up their game or couldnt we sustain our pressurising of the first half? We flagged a bit after their goal, heads went down. whilst Norwich tails were up.
If we’d scored from one of those chances of the first half the outcome could well have been different.
