Soccer yobs - fair punishment?

The Chron report that the hit and run drink driver who left a young lad a vegetable "served just a few weeks" of his 10 month (true) sentence.

Does this mean that the soccer yobs sentenced to 6 months will be let out before they go in?

Incredibly sad but true.

Heard on radio 4 at lunchtime that there are only 800 places left in prison at the moment. A lass has just got off with a suspended sentence for failing to control her dogs that killed a teenage visitor to her house. Maybe the courts are mindful of the lack of places in prison.

The prisons are full of people who perhaps don't need to be there, that's my experience of it.

I reckon crimes of violence, and by that I also mean sexual violence, would be punished with custodial sentences.

That's how I'd work the justice system, by putting the person above the person's belongings.

Punishment against non violent criminals can take many forms. A properly run community service system would work wonders, and pay dividends both socially and economically. That's my view on it, in a nutshell.
