Sagna Charged by FA

Manchester United's Wayne Rooney was let off for EXACTLY the same offence for which Man City's Sagna was charged

Sagna hasn't actually questioned his integrity here.

He's remarked on his performance in the heat of the moment, there's some leap between that and calling the man's integrity into question.

I know - I just think that is exactly how they will view it.

We have more precedent.

Ryan Babel was fined £10k in 2011 for a Twitter comment accusing Webb of bias.

In line with this consistency I expect a fine of £100k and a twelve match ban. Oh and he may have to give up his least favourite child for adoption (I assume he has a family) :103:

But in 2009, Rooney received a warning about his future conduct after mouthing the words '12 men' at a TV camera as he left the pitch following a defeat by Chelsea, in protest at Martin Atkinson's handling of the game.

The FA claims it is usually more lenient towards on-field issues – although Rooney himself might question that, having been banned for two matches in 2011 for swearing at a TV camera, whilst still on the pitch!

i think they will want to make an example of Sagna and any response he gives will be discounted. I think the die is cast. City would do well to keep an eye out for the Maureen conneced hack (JB's info) that highlighted the tweet and ensure he gets cut off fromanything substantive if he works in football related media.

They also need to educate the players to be more responsible with their social media. Sagna was silly to post what he did, these things hardly ever end well when they go public and he should have kept his personal views in a private group. He may have 'highlighted the issue' but i doubt it will be seen that way by those who will sit in judgement.

Sagna fined £40k (steep) and warned, but no ban.

So four times what Babel got for more or less exactly the same offence, why?

I'll get shot down by someone but here goes: because it's us?
City are contemplating appealing the size of it, presumably on his behalf.

It'd make you wonder Rising, wouldn't it?

Just imagine it when Sagna gets in from work tonight.

Sorry love, we're going to have to start making some cut backs. No summer holiday for us.

Stitch up and the size of the fine is disproportionate when compared to the one imposed on Babel but at least no ban. We have had enough disruption in that area

I assume they don't have to justify the amount, but I think if you compare it to the amount of fine imposed for racial abuse, then there is something clearly wrong in their priorities.

The FA should be more accountable and explain the decisions of referees where controversial decisions are made or not made in some cases, but they don't and that makes it a farce, because, when Managers and Players make comments, they are asked to explain, which appears to be a one way street in these cases

Reports suggesting City may appeal the fine because they believe there's double standards at play, no possibility of fine being removed just reduced.

well if they go off your link, they have a case, but how can they prove it wasn't a typo and the fact that the player removed it when he discovered the typo is to his credit, but the fine is not in keeping with fines for similar offences, they should explain that or it could be a case for discrimination of which City can quote quite a few no doubt.

The hypocrisy over the size of a fine for this matter and the insipid sanctions dealt out for racist behaviour is breathtaking

According to the Mail City will appeal his 40 grand fine and quite right too.
