Pierre-Emile Højbjerg - Player Thread

Not inclined to take too much notice of Southampton fans who rubbish him. Football fans everywhere are partisan and fickle, even the best of players are rubbished when they move on to better themselves. Southampton fans in particular must have developed a real complex. They have seen their Club develop many good players over the years, but only Le Tissier opted to make a career there.

And good luck to KWP, it will be interesting to see who got the best deal !!

When you go back through the years, when did we ever sell a player (our choice, not theirs) and get it badly wrong?

Most believe Siggy might have been a useful player to keep around, but he's no world beater. I think Corluka should have stayed because of his ability at centre half. I watched some joke performances after he left, including 2 guys that wore the armband.

Time will tell with KWP, but my instinct is that we got it right even though we messed him around.

The guy is clearly a winner. I think adding some characters to the team has been needed for a long time. Shame we didn't have him 3 years ago.

I think he will do the job Jose wants him to do. 15m is jack shit these days.

I think it's a smart signing.

Lets hope he is Jack and not shit!

Welcome Hoj. The signing makes perfect sense to me. With Dier moving in to defence and Sissoko retaining the 'bull in a china shop' label, we needed 1) options and 2) a specialist. I also welcome the early signing (and departure). It was a perfect "exchange" setup for Levy!

As for will he/won't he come good. Don't know many Southamton "stepping stone" players that have not made it at the next club. Perhaps Lallana comes close!

Next!...hope the fax machine and Levy don't succumb to social distancing.

We have been crying out for an out and out DM and whilst I don't see Hojbjerg being exactly that I have a good feeling about this signing. To me he seems like good, solid, hard working midfield with a strong defensive side to his game rather than a Wanyama or Dier style DM.

Hopefully having a competent midfielder in a double pivot will allow Winks to shine. Hopefully he will allow Lo Celso to have more freedom to get forward. Hopefully he has a strong enough defensive contribution that Jose will be trust NDombele to be on the pitch. A lot resting on his shoulders but he certainly looks like the type of under rated signing that excels at an easily overlooked role.

I just watched his intro video.
He looks like a no nonsense kind of chap.
He has already managed to ball out some of the slackers without mentioning them by name.
I like him. He seems to have character. Prepared to take responsibility.
Something that some of our midfield has been missing.

I am really looking forward to the mentality shift under Jose. Hope Levy supports couple of more additions.

That's why it's so important for any manager to do their home work on players mentalities before they buy them. A bit pointless buying purely on ability.

There is a reason this club never wins anything under ENIC, we have never had real winners in the side or the dug out. We nearly did a few years back but not quite.

I'm confident he will be more of a captain on the pitch than any of the other lads.

Must be the first midfield player we have bought that has premier league experience for quite a while , unless I’ve forgotten somebody .

I think it was Sissoko and Wana who were the last.
Yes. ...and in my earlier mention about X-Saint's players. Wana was another who excelled until the injuries caught up with him.

Clearly Saint's have depth in their scouting system. No matter who leaves their club they always seem to find bargains or develop youth. To think most had written off Ings and KWP!
