Manager / Head Coach

So we have a manager and we have a separate board.

Newcastle have now appointed Steve McLaren as their "head coach", not Manager.

McLaren has also been appointed to the Board of Newcastle.
Also joining the Board chief is scout Graham Carr and club ambassador Bob Moncur, with finance director John Irving leaving the club.

Manager / Head Coach ???

What's the difference, or is a "rose by any other name"?

We have a manager . AN has always said that he will manage in his own way without interference , and while the going is good I hope the Board will back him to the hilt

There seems to be a variety of opinions about what constitutes a manager and what is a Head Coach.

Some treat the roles as the same rose by different names.

Others regard the title 'Manager' as encompassing rather more than team selection, motivation etc, perhaps involving the main say in who goes or who is signed.

On the continent the Head Coach is senior to the Manager.

Whether a Manager or Coach has a seat on the board seems a separate issue; possibly related to how a club goes about signing players.

It appears that AN does the selecting whereas NA probably had to put in a request. He didn't get much say imo.

CH was probably more involved but may have had to negotiate a bit more.
