Burnley-Manchester City Premier League Post Match Thread

Well taken goals & could have had a few more but a job done professionally and well.

Two great assists from Sterling - the first was a first time lay back into KDB and the second a super pull back from the line after a ‘give and go’. The benefit of Raheem using his pace to go outside the full back

I like him playing on the right wing, he does not have to think too much and can use his pace to good effect.

The weight on the pass from De Bruyne’s to Sterling in the build up to the second goal…..perfection. Great ‘give and go’ - really good example of what difference it can offer when playing a fleet footed player in a wide position where he can use his ‘natural’ foot. That can keep some defences on their toes.

This is why I worry about Flash on the left flank, lack of pace and often cuts inside and slows the attack, still a good player mind, but not top shelf.

The other thing about Sterling’s play yesterday - maybe because he was more comfortable on the RH side - was that he kept it simple. He didn’t faff about with the ball, didn’t take too many touches or bring the ball into close contact with his opponent. He played quick, simple passes and didn’t over complicate things. Reminded me of that season when Arteta spent so much time with him in the early seasons under Pep.

KippaxBlue’s View:-

Burnley 2-0

City made three changes from the FA Cup game Ederson, Foden and Ake coming in for Steffen, Jesus and Stones. With Liverpool beating Watford earlier City needed those three points to regain their position at the top of the league. So it was excellent that the sky blues took an early lead. After just 5 minutes good work by Rodri and Sterling gave De Bruyne a chance and he cracked the ball past Pope . It was his 12th goal of the season in his 200th Premier league game.

Pope then had to save from Rodri on 8 minutes with City well on top. Having shot wide on 16minutes Gundogan made it two nil 8 minutes later. Some really good football ended with Sterling crossing to Gundogan who notched his 34th Premier League goal - making him the top German scorer in the Premier League.

So at half time it was two nil and we needed more goals to improve the goal difference.

Early in the second half Rodri took a pass from Grealish but shot just wide. Then Pope had to save from Gundogan and Walker as City continued to attack. Burnley actually got into our half when a long kick by Pope caused a problem and a penalty was called for but no way would it have been given.
On 64 minutes Jesus came on for Foden and he soon had a chance from a cross from Sterling but he shot over the bar.

Then Ederson actually had to make a save - from Rodriguez - it was their first shot on target!

On 78 minutes Benardo Silva came on for Kevin De Bruyne but despite more City attacks they could not add to the score.
Sterling continued his good England form with his excellent display and he made two assists while Kevin is getting back to his best form too and he is cracking in some good goals
