Our NHS (n/G)

Absolutely not true.

The NHS does not have to treat foreign nationals (which you allude to) without billing their ‘home’ nation.

And I think we all know what you’re insinuating.
Home nation being Afghanistan, Romania and Albania! 😀

I'm not insinuating anything, I am just saying that it is a pool of money which I personally have been paying into for over 30 years. If people that are using the service haven't got the same funding history as you and I, then there is going to be a deficit - no emotion in this, it's just how pooled healthcare works

In France we have to pay the cost, then claim it back from the NHS.
We are too soft in many aspects, leading to our own downfall.

The NHS was originally set up as a pool of money paid by British people, to provide medical care for British people. As the world becomes more fluid and this country becomes more vibrant, an increasing number of people will be getting treatment without having put into the pot, which is going to be unsustainable.

My personal recent experience of the NHS, having scans, and injections into my eye, have been very positive.
The 'vibrant' folk you are referring to, make up the majority of NHS staff who are looking after patients.
The largest demographic of their patients will be elderly and white.

You know what you’re doing.

And the NHS isn’t in crisis because of those awful foreigners, It’s been deliberately underfunded for a decade or so like every other public service. Remember the sorry state of it last time the Tories finally left office? Same again.

And I will reiterate, the NHS claims money back from foreign national states in the case of long term care. Of course they do immediate A&E level care.

What else would you have them do?

I want 2% added to income tax and plough those funds direct to the NHS.

I have family living in Sweden and their health care is top class.

People get yearly check-ups by GPS each year after a certain age. This helps discover illnesses at an early stage.

The health budget has increased every year since 2015. Try again.

And if they've moved to the UK the NHS doesn't bill their original home nation.

So guess what happens when you admit millions of poor, low-tax paying people?

First sentence isn't true, not even close, but even if it was it wouldn't be relevant.

Do you think it is possible to run a National Health Service whilst also having large net immigration. If so how? Just based on financials. How would it work?

We already have an insurance system. Its called NI so obviously do not need another one. If its not high enough then simply increase it and improve the efficiency.

Strange that when the torys tried to increase it (socialist measure) the media and other partys called it a rise in tax on poor people and they had to cancel the rise in NI funding.

I’ve used the NHS as a non-resident twice. Once for a minor procedure and an overnight. Once to see a Dr in ER re a kidney stone episode (sent home with a prescription for painkillers). Charged for the first, but the amount was laughable. No charge for the second.

You said foreign nationals, I didn't. I was referring to the 10 million people in the UK that were born overseas. If they have arrived as adults, they have missed NI contribution history haven't they?

The Tories are trying to abolish NI.

Again not true.

You remember the E1-11 form/card?

My wife has had excellent care from the nhs especially heart op at st thomas's london. Also local respiratory care is great as is the oxygen supplier.
Has to be balanced against medway hospital care.
She was taken into medway by ambulance with heart and respiratory by ambulance in jan this year. Having to lay on a trolley in A&E and in their corridors for nearly four days did not help especially as those on oxygen should not be in the corridors. Many staff were rude and uncaring and many patients left to mess themselves. Obviously some very good staff as well.
We made sure we got her home as quickly as possible ao at least she was relaxed before passing.

Who would you blame for that? The staff?
