[QUOTE="shorehamoldboy, yeah your right but it would cut all this nonsense out once and for all personally ive always prefered sheffield derbys with plenty of support for the away team better atmosphere all round[/QUOTE]
It does make for a better atmosphere IMO
What are my fellow Blades views on what happens here for the Sevilla derby games where there is a similar fierce rivalry between fans, Would this work in Sheffield?
Both Real Betis and Sevillafc came to an agreement a few years ago that the solution to prevent trouble was to grant only 500 tickets for away fans for the derby games.
This is how it works here.
If you are a season ticket holder and want to attend the derby as an away fan you register your interest by sending your season ticket number to your home club where it is entered in a a draw to choose the lucky ones who get a ticket.
If you are successful the ticket has to be collected from your own stadium box office on the day of the match, about 3hrs before kick off.
Once all the tickets are allocated the local police coral the away fans together and escort them by foot ( The walk is around the same distance between the sty and the Lane) to the stadium, this ensures lots of banter and abuse along the way but zero problems. On arrival at the away section all tickets are checked against your ID card before entry is granted. Anyone turning up solo before or after the official escorted walk is refused admission.
At the end of the match the away fans are then escorted back to their home stadium in the same way..
Not much fun if you are bad on your legs or it's pissing down but it ensures a safe , trouble free match.
