I'm afraid I won't be rating this game either, I only had radio commentary and I'm not going to sit through the whole match when it's up on Spursplay. Sorry Gary.

I didn't watch as i was out today. I didn't expect us to get anything but this performance was a bitter pill to swallow.

MotM- Bentancur

Vicario - 6
Pedro Porro - 5
Romero - 5
Van de Ven - 5 very off day for him
Udogie - 5
Bentancur - 7 he is getting there
Bissouma - 5
Johnson - 6
Maddison - 5 - still won’t use his wingers.
Werner - 5 - two fluffed chances
Son - 4.

Royal - 5
Hojbjerg - 5
Sarr - NR
Kulusevski - 6 - he is a fighter
Lo Celso - NR

Ange - 6 - despite what people think he doesn’t have many quality options
The team - 3 - rarely first to second balls.

MotM - Udogie

Vicario - 5. Little he could do with the goals but his distribution was poor and it caused us many problems.

Pedro Porro - 5. Given a tough afternoon by Barnes.

Romero - 5. Needed a much bigger performance from our vice captain.

Van de Ven - 6. Second best to Isak I'm afraid.

Udogie - 7. Had a really tough task with Gordon but stuck at it for the 90 minutes.

Bentancur - 5. Wanted far more time on the ball than Newcastle gave him.

Bissouma - 5. Cumbersome and sluggish. Very disappointing.

Johnson - 6. Bullied and nullified on the right but once he moved to the centre we got some control in the final 3rd.

Maddison - 5.5. No lack of effort but not much guile unfortunately. Too few options ahead of him.

Werner - 3. Had the first two good chances of the game but panicked and wasted them. His previous two barren goalscoring spells at Chelsea and Leipzig are increasingly easy to understand.

Son - 1. Just wretched. His continual loss of possession caused us as many problems as any Newcastle player and led directly to two of their goals. His continued selection in the number 9 position is killing us.

Subs

Royal - 5.5. Did as well as could be expected in the circumstances.

Hojbjerg - 7. Very impressive. Played a few progressive, probing passes behind Newcastle's defenders, even if they didn't all come off. Did what Bissouma should have been doing.

Sarr - 5.5. Plenty of endeavour and drive but little quality.

Kulusevski - 7. Best performance in a while. Shades of Kulu earlier in the season.

Lo Celso - N/A.

Ange - 3. Hard to defend the manager when we lose 4-0. The one decision he did get right was substituting Son. However, the substitution was too late. It should have been at half-time when we still had a chance in the game.

The team - 3. Hard to find any positives in today's performance.

Vicario - 6 not sure what he could have done with what happened in front of him
Pedro Porro - 4 not his best !
Romero - 4 went missing when it mattered

Van de Ven - 4 stuck at it , but just had a mare .
Udogie - 6 isolated and struggled .

Bentancur - 7 getting better every week , this was his best for a while .

Bissouma - 5 swamped yet again

Johnson - 4 not given service and didn’t give any service

Maddison -4 should have been tough and ruthless but was rough and toothless

Werner - 4 hopeless

Son - 3 lost in a changing world .( lyrics borrowed from a Genises song )

Royal - 5 better than Porro
Hojbjerg - 6 better than Bissouma

Sarr - 4 didn’t notice him
Kulusevski - 5 just about better than who he replaced , but I don’t know who that was , I had lost interest by then
Lo Celso - 4 see above

Ange - 5 struggling , ……we have had this result coming for a long while . I think he has reached a ceiling for this season .We need a massive bounce back for the next few games , and we are relying on others to keep us where we are . …… at the moment !

The team - 3 let all of us down . They don’t even play the sweeping , passing , moving style anymore .

They all look lost .

This won't be easy

Vicario 7 - don't remember him being at fault for any goals and made a couple of other good saves.

Pedro Porro 5
Romero 6
Van de Ven 5
Udogie 5
The tactical system will always leave the centre halves one-on-one, or the full-backs hopelessly out of position. I feel bad marking these guys down for a system that they probably don't believe in

Bentancur 5.5
Bissouma 5.5
I worry about these two. I bet they would just love to work as a double pivot and protect their back line. Did nothing directly wrong, but they looked outmuscled and outpaced in the middle of the park.

Johnson 6
Maddison 5
Werner 5.5
Son 4
Just couldn't retain possession or create anything in this game.

Royal 6 - looked better than Porro in this one. Kept fighting.
Hojbjerg 5.5
Sarr 5.5
Kulusevski 6
Switching the centre mid made little difference to be fair. Kulu huffed and puffed but couldn't impact the outcome.
Lo Celso -

Ange 1 - It really is now down to Ange whether he applies some common sense and reacts to his shit show tactics. They cost us all the goals, not for first time I might add. A manager that doesn't respect his opponents tactics and just has a plan A. He then does stupid interviews and says things like "we let them have control". No Ange, top teams playing at home will have control. Your job is to get control back.

The team 5.5 - I'm starting to feel sorry for the guys. Even if their heart is telling them to follow their leader, their heads are saying different. I'm not convinced they believe in the "system" and that shows in their performances. They are confused as it works against the bottom sides. Then they go to St James Park and get schooled by a very credible coach like Howe. Our players know they aren't as bad as they are being made to look in this tactical setup.

Vicario 5

Beaten hands down for all three Newcastle goals but saved well from Elliot Anderson after the break. A match to forget asap.

Porro 3

A horrendous back-pass from which was directly responsible for Newcastle’s second goal, and his inability to stay wide enough allowed Newcastle to get inside down the flank on numerous occasions. Utterly dreadful.

VDV 3
Booked, and ended up on his backside as Newcastle sent him flying for both of their first-half goals. 2 mistakes in two minutes - game over- Outrun by Isak for the third goal.

Romero 4
Disappeared, made one decent block, but that was about it, the backline that were given a runaround all afternoon, you'd hope as a WC winner he'd stand tall and lead the fightback, but he just got arsey and showed no leadership yet again.

Udogie 3

His positioning for much if not most of the game was a shambles and opened up our left for them to do whatever they like for much of the game

Bentancur 3

Totally outpaced by Gordon in a straight sprint early on and never really recovered. Deserved to be subbed earlier than he was, he is miles off - whatever is going on with his ankle still, it's affecting him badly.

Bissouma 4

Put in a busy effort but to little effect as the rest looked like trees, he too was also replaced before 60 minutes and was probably relieved to be.

Johnson 4

This game could have ended differently if he had converted from Johnson’s excellent cross early on. But it was a sign of things to come as just didn't achieve anything after that.

Maddison 4

He was partly responsible for our over-plying in attack. Poor decision, another who looked out of sorts.

Werner 6
our second-best performer, always an outlet on the left flank and was adventurous with the ball at his feet, but his finishing makes my stomach churn and my eyes roll.

Son 4
waste of space.

Subs:

Royal 3

Just please move him on, he is not good enough in any aspect of his play.

Hojbjerg 5
Amazing how as we falter, he seems to do better than most - why?.

Sarr 3
anonymous, again. Going backwards. Needs rebuilding/resting.

Kulu 6.5
Made some nice runs down the right but was rarely found by his team-mates. More threatening than either Johnson or Son had been. Put in 100% effort but couldn't turn it around on his own.

Lo Celso N/A - he should have been on for Maddison much much sooner.

Ange 3 - his passivity on the touch line is tough to take when we perform like this. Seemed frozen and had no idea what to do next.

Your post brought a tear to my eye. I couldn't agree more. The only problem is we as a team couldn't wrestle a lollipop out of a child's hand.

It's all about our lack of leadership in key moments and lack of bite in the middle.

The leadership issue is more worrying as our defence is like a headless chicken.
With the likes of Benty, Madds, Sonny & Romero in the 1st team we really ought to be expecting better.

Our MF is broken. Madds needs better protection & our forwards need better service & if we only have Madds providing it we're going to have a pretty big problem moving forward.

So many players are below the standard they set for themselves at the beginning of the season.

Whether it’s fatigue from the way we play, or the stop-start nature of this season, something is seriously amiss among the players. It’s now beyond worrying that the coaches have not been able to get them out of this malaise for months now.

Bentancour nor Biss can't last more than 60 mins, Sarr looks like a child who's learning the game and shouldn't even get near our U-21's. Bizarrely, the only one not shirking when he's on the pitch and showing some smarts/leadership is Hoj!? There was almost no fight in any of our midfield once we went behind.

Son is better running from deep, instead he, Johnson and Madds just tried to dribble through a brick wall to no avail. Why?

Madds has looked a shadow of himself since his return from a 3 Months forced lay off, so he gets a pass card from me for now.

Also for the love of God please please fix the set piece defending…this should be an easier fix then some other aspects, but we just aren’t doing it. Why? If this carries on, I'll be hawking Romero around the leagues myself, he's looked clueless for too many games now. What's wrong with him and Pedro, they look like they don't even recognise each other?

Game after game of zonal defence at corners is killing us, everyone can see it, but apparently, not Ange nor the coaching staff.

As you can tell, I'm frustrated and grumpy.

Our defending in general has been laughable at times, the goals against column doesn't lie. The seasoned pros should all be faring better. Something as you say is seriously amiss. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Romero wanted out.
