Match Thread: Lincoln City v Northampton Town

first five minutes of intensity. then back into comfort zone. sitting back. sloppy passing. second to everything. not stopping crosses. it is quite a predictable pattern.

Great battling from Eyoma to win the ball in the box, great cross just begging for a tap in and no Imps lurking - three at the back all waiting for a header. No smarts.

FFS why do we persist with these long throws? we never get to it first (or even second). Is it honestly the only way we can get the ball into the box?

Is it now obligatory that all throw-ins in the "final third" are long ones? More imagination, variation and intelligence please. A tactic now well known to every team we meet, and handled.

it has been our main attacking ploy for ages. probably why adelakun gets minutes. and why we constantly long ball into the wide areas. very low brow stuff.

Shame - we started well with an adventurous side. The one player we need to get on is Leonard. He’s getting far too much room and is behind everything Northampton are doing. At corners he is outside the area with non-one within 10 yards of him. In the SW podcast the Cobblers fan said Leonard runs the midfield and is much better than L1 standard.
He ran the game at their place for 20 mins until Kennedy made a tactical change

We are still in this game but it is a tough watch as we struggle to do the simple things. We are getting more bodies on the forward line but so often our 1st touch is lacking quality. Michael Skubala will need to inspire his team to restore the confidence of his players. A big second half required to keep the crowd onside.

HT. Good game. We have been a lot more adventurous, but keep making basic mistakes in control and decision making when we do manage to get into potentially dangerous positions. Bishop has not done a lot until his run, and for the first time he got close to Leonard, only to clatter him and get booked. Is this more of a Skubala formation? Jack Burroughs needs to be a little more adventurous a support/overlap with Sorensen. Would also love to see Duffy on and getting some of his crosses into the box. Shame, we’ve been punished by one mistake, ironically by Jensen, but we are at last going toe to toe with another team and having a go so I’m not that disappointed I this is us going forward.
