I'm going to miss this one tonight and watch via the gogglebox.

Blackpool take on Burton Albion in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy at Bloomfield Road on Wednesday at 7pm.

The Seasiders arrived in the Last 16 of the competition following a 2-1 win over Barnsley, while Burton got the better of Wrexham after extra time in a 3-2 win away from home.

Opposition In Focus

Pool know all too well the challenge Burton can pose following their 1-0 defeat at Pirelli Stadium on Boxing Day. This will already be the third meeting between the sides in the 2023/24 campaign following Blackpool's 2-0 opening day win at Bloomfield Road.

Burton remain without a permanent manager in the dugout following the dismissal of Dino Maamria. The Brewers have created a gap between themselves and the relegation places in Sky Bet League One, but attention turns to a real chance to make a run for the Bristol Street Motors Trophy final at Wembley Stadium later in the year.

Last Five Meetings
  • 1-0 Away Loss - Sky Bet League One - 26/12/2023
  • 2-0 Home Win - Sky Bet League One - 05/08/2023
  • 1-1 Home Draw - Sky Bet League One - 16/03/2021
  • 2-1 Away Win - Sky Bet League One - 31/10/2020
  • 0-0 Away Draw - Sky Bet League One - 26/10/2019
Please note, only the West Stand will be open for this fixture, with Blackpool supporters located towards the north side and Burton supporters towards the south.

3 games from Wembley so hopefully Critchley will take the opportunity to put out a strong team. He touched on the winning games increases positivity so the best thing he can do now is use most of our best players for every game from now on.

Of course we have fixtures coming thick and fast, but we also have a large, relatively injury free squad to choose from except for strikers.

Our starting 11s v Burton this season were:

---‐-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Home: 5 August, 2-0 win

Grimshaw
Pennington, Ekpiteta, Husband
Hamilton, Morgan, Norburn, Carey, Connolly
Lavery, Beesley

Subs Used:
Casey, Dougall, Dale, Virtue
---‐-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Away: 26 December, 1-0 loss

Grimshaw
Pennington, Lyons, Husband
Hamilton, Norburn, Morgan, Dembele, Connolly
Joseph, Rhodes

Subs Used:
Casey, Beesley, Dale, Carey
---‐-----------------------------------------------------------------------
So 7 starters the same in starting 11, and 10 of the 15 in both.

Dougall, Lavery, Virtue and Ekpiteta all missing from the team that lost so I'd include 3 of the 4 that are fit.

My starting 11:

Grimshaw
Ekpiteta, Casey, Husband
Hamilton, Dembele, Dougall, Carey
Rhodes, Joseph

Subs:
Dale, Morgan, Apter, Lyons

Apter was cup tied I think
