Zakuani signs new deal.

Very pleased with this news, Zak was key in transforming our back line from terrible to good. He plays a steely game and I hope that SL makes him Captain. Nice one Zak.
 
That is fantastic news. I was reading a few minutes ago on another thread about how we needed to sign leaders with Martin gone and had a horrible moment of contemplating not having Zakuani next season. Huuuuuge signing! Well done Lovell, Zakuani and Scally.

Best news this close season so far. IMO more important even than in resigning Byrne and Max is a much better player with Zac alongside.
 
Very good news. We certainly did look tighter with him playing. I thought he would move on so pleasantly surprised.

Ehmer signed a new deal towards the end of the season so it might’ve been possible they were already negotiating a new contract before the season ended. That’s just me guessing.

Could he not be just happy to stay and be happy with the deal he was offered .The fact that he will know many who will be alongside him .Knowing who you work with and not really wanting to move can be a big factor.
Anyway this is great news .A leader and a old fashioned defender .Really happy the most important extention signing of the summer. Without exception. The rest are replaceable.

I know what you are saying but I would say getting Holy on a extension would be as important. He seems the most likely player to be sold for decent money and we are a selling club to survive.

I'd be very surprised if that were the case. We're still in May, the season's not even finished yet. Why would a player accept a contract on the basis of it being the only one he's received at such an early stage of the close season? If he's accepted the contract, surely it's because it's a good deal for him?

Don’t be daft Chris it can only be one extreme or the other or just be about money. Hopefully the new contract offers better value than we could have got elsewhere.

Well we may find out .For me it is unthinkable that Zakuani would have no others sniffing around. It is also unlikely that we have massively increased . Although clearly we have given him a competitive offer .Letting Martin and Waggy go may have given Lovell a little more flexibility. Plus of course we may have offered a long term deal .That security will be important. It may also help that we are not that far from a major airport given I take it he will continue to play international football in Africa.
