Youth - U23 - Loans Thread

After four straight defeats on the spin for head coach Steven Gerrard, Aston Villa fans had two things to celebrate this weekend. Not only did travelling Villans see the first team keep a valuable clean sheet and pick up a point from our trip to Leicester City to end that run (and avoid a Dean Smith sackable five on the trot). But loanee Academy graduate Aaron Ramsey also scored his first professional senior goal for Cheltenham Town.

Why do we need a youth scouting set up? All we have to do is keep an eye on the Baggies youth teams and cherry pick the best they have to offer.

That's what we do isn't it, but seriously no local kids should want to go anywhere else than us, we've somehow managed to miss Barry a Villa fan from Sutton and Tim Ibrufen born in Great Barr. I know it borders west Brom but ..... and worst of all Bellingham from Stourbridge

Clubs play the numbers game with it now and sign up any half decent kid, most are so young its difficult to tell if they will be any good and they soon cut most of them loose a few years later. I know people in Birmingham/Solihull area who's kids have been scouted by Leicester and Man U (apparently they have kids teams playing at Walsall). Clubs are scouting all over the country now it seems

Yes I think the boys have to live within an hour's drive of the club, so they fiddle that by moving to other areas, not sure how it all works but they always find ways around the rules.
You can pretty much say if the kid hasn't been spotted or pushed by over-enthusiastic parents to a club by 11 they won't be making it to the top. A few come from nowhere but not many. The amount of deluded Dads I've met when I ran a kids team is unbelievable. My lad played at 16 for a team that had two players who were on the books of Villa and Leicester at one point neither was a standout player for my lad's side in fact they weren't as good as most.
It's a horrible thing to see kids dumped like that.

Barry has made a real impact there. 6 goals from left wing.
I think he's probably better suited to being what they call nowadays a wide forward ala Mane and Salah .
I think out of him,Young and Archer, Young is more the centre forward type.
It will be interesting to see how all 3 progress in the next couple of years as all 3 are more than comfortable putting the ball in the net

Under 23s play their last game of the season at VP today. Kick off 12.30. Last time I checked there was still some tickets available. £5 for adults £2.50 for kids, season ticket holders can get in free but all tickets have to be pre booked. A bit late in the day I know but I have only just seen it myself. It is available to watch on Villa TV for those that subscribe.
