Youth - U23 - Loans Thread

Kids had a bad night, Mungo had a shocker gave away two pens. Marvelous had a good return, he should be back next week, even though it was kids he showed that bit of class.

So April is finally here and with three back to back defeats for head coach Steven Gerrard for the first time since his arrival, it's going to be a tight end to the season and having already admitted that if players don't help to fix the issues we have, he'll find players over the summer who will - that could mean a ore prominent place or three for some of our impressive loanees.

Great article Mike. There's a bit of talent sloshing about the various leagues, very interesting to see who, if any come through for us.
Should earn the club transfer fees if they don't get to wear the prized Claret n Blue.

Good to see that we are sending them out now to see how they fare.

Although I’m loathe to compare us to them (as a lot do with the SG links), seems like we’re going down the Liverpool route in sending them out and if they don’t make it, then hopefully getting decent money for them (think Rhian Brewster, Harry Wilson, Ryan Kent, etc) rather than just giving them away like we have done in the past.

Archer looks a better footballer than Watkins already. I’m very keen for him to be involved next season.

I would say that's very dependent on who Gerrard is planning to sell in the window and if he wants to buy a 'next level striker'. I think Archer would be best served having a full season for a play off challenging Championship team and seeing if he can continue his hot goal scoring streak over a full campaign.

Plenty of decent loans out from Liverpool at the moment that he will be watching. I imagine SG will gladly come back and help us out after he has left with a few of them.

Oh. Sorry is that not what the title is getting at ?. Oops. I'll get me coat.

Louis Barrys goals are the first 2 on this video. Simple finishes but he's definitely got a knack of being in the right place st the right time.

I think most of our best lads that would be able to play for the under 23s are either off on loan (Barry, Archer etc) or in the first team picture (Chuck, Iroegbunam, O'Reily). So we're left with really young lads who could be playing under 18s, lads like Bridge, Vasilev who will probably be off in the summer and Marvelous returning from injury.

In a way its actually good as it means our best kids are off experiencing proper football. I'm glad we aren't stockpiling 20 year olds in the under 23s like we did with the likes of O'Hare and RHM.

It's the way we want it 16-year-old in the under 18s, 18year olds in the under 23's and the 19/20-year-old out on loan or in the first-team squad. It's not about winning leagues or cups it's about getting into the first team. Some players have to make up the numbers or the top kids would have nobody to train and play with .
Some obviously aren't going to make the grade but they will somewhere else

Yes. I think that the previous lot in charge of our youth system were too obsessed with results and having a strong team instead of readying players for first team football.

We signed Doug the same summer we loaned O'Hare to Coventry. They're the same age yet Luiz had played over 100 games in Brazil and Spain whereas O'Hare had about 15 or so games whilst on loan at Carlisle.

Think this probably ties in with the transfer thread as well but it's probably why we're changing our transfer strategy to have ready, established players rather than future potential....easier to bring in a few of the more promising youth with experienced ones around them rather than ones finding their way
