50-over Friendly game v Northumberland at Scarboro'. (1100 start)
Bess is captain, first tme for Yorkshire. Duke is wicketkeeper. Ballance, Brook, Olivier Lyth and Root are rested. Tattersall playing as a batsman. Several youngsters in the team - Revis, Luxton, Pillans, Shutt. Northumberland won the toss and are batting first. Live stream via link on White Rose Cricket Forum. Good chance to see what some of the youngsters are like , if you have not seen them before.

Update 1 - Northumberland 129-1 after 25 overs. Appleby c Duke b Pillans 60. S. Bell 54 n.o. Useful start for the visitors , but looks like a good batting wicket.

Update 2 - Northumberland 254-8 (Innings closed) Richardson 65, S.Bell 54. Best Yorkshire bowler was Pillans, with 3-23. He put the brake on the Northumberland bastmen when they looked like they could be heading for a 300 total. Must be in contention to start the next game.

Other news - Patterson has already signed a contract for next season. Leech's injury not as bad as first thought (out for 3 weeks), Olivier has a minor back problem, but could be ok within next few days. Bess is playing today, despite having a sore thumb.

Update 3 - Yorks 129-0 (20 overs) Fraine 73 not out. Duke 43 not out. Yorks going well.

Update 4 - Yorks 214-1 off 35 overs . (Duke 52) Fraine 124 n.o., Revis 23 n.o.

Update 5 - Yorks 255-1 off 39.2 overs. Fraine 146 n.o., Revis 40 n.o..
Yorkshire won by 9 wickets. Great innings by Fraine, but it was against "National League" opposition. He has previously been been hampered by injuries, so let's hope he can repeat this standard of batting against the main counties now.

Team news 21/07/21

Yorkshire spinner Josh Poysden will not be playing for Yorkshire any more. He has retired from professional cricket, due to a combination of injury, being too far down the selection "pecking order" now, and all the day-to-day Covid restrictions for players. He was never really a first-team regular.

Think it means it's to give the youngsters a chance to play in the friendly, but he should be availble tomorrow. Also news that Jonny Bairstow has been recalled by England, but he was signed up to play in "The Hundred" anyway, so wouldn't have been available for Yorkshire in the Royal London Cup.

I watched some of the ladies '100' today - I think it will catch on but it was too much like 'let's find someone famous in the crowd to talk to' by someone who has probably never been to a cricket game before, for me.

Yorkshire v Surrey (RL Cup) 1100 start

Bess is captain, Duke is wicket keeper. England players , including Root now, not available. Olivier still not fully fit. Several players are playing in "The 100", so some of the youngsters will get their chance to represent Yorkshire today - Revis, Pillans, Hill, and Shutt all start. (Stoneman is playing for Surrey!) Surrey won the toss and are bowling first.

Update 1 - Yorks 165 all out off 34.1 overs. Lack of experience , and so needlessly slogged themselves out on a decent pitch .They seemed to think that it was a T20 game!

Revis played well though, and scored 43 at a run per ball. Fraine continues to frustrate with big scores in 2nd XI and friendly games, then single figures in competitive matches. Best Surrey bowler was Atkinson with 4-43. Can only see a Surrey win from here.

Update 2 - Surrey 89-2 off 19 overs, Both wickets to Pillans. Stoneman 47n.o. (if only he could do that for us!)

Update 3- Surrey 168-5 (39.1 overs) Stoneman 73 n.o . Best Yorkshire bowler was with Pillans 4-27. Poor batting performance, but decent bowling performance by Yorkshire.
Surrey won by 5 wickets

Leics v Yorkshire (RL Cup) 1100 start

Most of squad same as previous match - a lot of youngsters included.
Bess is captain, Duke is wicketkeeper. Kohler-Cadmore is fit again, but contracted to play in "The Hundred, so unavailable. Fairly inexperienced team again - YCCC are treating this competition as a chance to test the reserves. Leics won the toss and are batting first.

Update 1 - Leics 327-7 (innings closed). Harris 127, Hill 108. Best Yorkshire bowler was Waite with 5-59. Yorkshire are going to have to bat much better than in the previous game to get anywhere near that target.

Update 2 - Yorks 329-3 (47.5 overs). Great comeback, and third highest 50-overs total that Yorkshire have ever chased down to win. Harry Duke made a brilliant 125 and was out shortly before the end. Duke and Hill (90 n.o.) put on 172 for the third wicket. Tattersall (6 n.o.) hit the winning boundary. Very good performances by several of the Yorkshire youngsters. Let's hope that the can keep it going.

Yorkshire won by 7 wickets (y)

Squad news - Patterson and Oliver are in the squad for tomorrow (No idea if they will play though). Not clear now if Bess can play, because of England duteis! Duke is the wicketkeeper.

Yorkshire v Northants (RL Cup) 1100 start
Some light showers forecast for Scarboro' so may lose some overs during the day.
Started on time, Bess unavailable . Ballance is captain, Duke is wicketkeeper, Patterson returns to the team. Northants won the toss and bowled first. Poor start by Yorkshire , 48-4.

Update 1- Yorks 222 all out (49.2 overs) . After being 69 for six, Yorkshire staged a comeback with youngster Will Luxton making 68 on his debut in this competition. Pillans made a useful 40 too, but the total is unlikely to be enough to win the game. At least a complete embarrassment has been avoided.
Best Northants bowler was White with 3-38

Update 2 - Northants 2-0 from 0.5 overs (Raining)

Update 3 - No further play. Match abandoned due to rain.
"No result"

YCCC Squad news - Missing are the England players (now including Bess), the "Hundred" players, plus Leech and Olivier are injured. Ballance is captain, Duke is wicketkeeper. Also in the squad are Tattersall and Birkbeck (who are both wicketkeepers!) and the brothers Josh and Harry Sullivan (who are both spinners). I have never seen the latter two youngsters play, or Birkbeck either.

01/08/21

Somerset v Yorks (RL Cup) 1100 start
Weather forecast is showery, so play may get interrupted. Somerset won the toss and are bowling first. Birkbeck and the Sullivan lads were left out of the Yorkshire side.

Update 1 - Start delayed by rain - inspection at 1430

Update 2 - Game reduced to 20 overs. Yorks 84-4 off 12 overs.

Update 3 - Yorkshire 158-5 (innings closed). Revis 58 n.o., Luxton 31 n.o. . Good unbroken partnership of 69 from the youngsters, after Yorkshire had lost some early wickets.

Update 4 - Somerset 162-5 (19.1 overs) . Fairly close game, but we couldn't dismiss Hildreth (61 n.o.), which could have made a big difference. Best Yorks bowler was Waite with 2-19.
Somerset won by 5 wickets

At least we seem to be cementing the middle order and getting runs there - because the top order aren't doing much are they.

Yorkshire v Warks (RL Cup) 1100 start [Venue : York]
Weather forecast looks quite good. Ballance is captain, Duke is wicketkeeper. Olivier replaces Pillans. Warks won the toss and put Yorkshire in to bat.

Update 1 - Yorks 320-7 (innings closed). Poor start for Yorkshire with Fraine and Luxton out for ducks in the first over. Then some good performances from Duke (42), Ballance (54), Hill (64), Tattersall (70) and a whirlwind 42 n.o. from Waite at the end gave Yorkshire a good total.

Update 2 - Warks 281 all out (47.2 overs). Some good bowling by Coad restricted the Warks batsmen. Bethell( 66) and Mousley (61) threatened to get Warks back into the game at one stage, but once they were out, the threat faded. Coad was the best Yorks bowler with 3-30, and Hill took 3-47. Decent game.

Yorkshire won by 39 runs.

YCCC Squad news -more back problems for Olivier, so probably won't play tomorrow.

By the way, saw Mark Stoneman play for Surrey at The Oval today (had a free ticket) . Drizzly conditions, and eventually a "No Result" match, but he made a stylish 29 n.o., as opener for Surrey, before the rain put a stop to his innings in the late afternoon. Not sure if he is coming back on loan for us later in other competitions.

Updatec 3- Raining again. Notts 185-5 off 33 overs, innings closed . (Slater 74, Budinger 71). Four wickets for Pillans (4-26) and one for young Sullivan (1-42). There will be a DLS target set for Yorkshire , if play can resume. Inspection at 5pm.

Update 3 - Derbys 108-6 (innings closed) Came 28. Best Yorks bowler was spinner J.Sullivan with 4-11.
