Yorkshire cricket County Championship 2021

Let's hope he can take a few more catches today!
-------------------------------------------------------
Day Four continued...

Update 2 - Tea: Sussex 164-4. Only a couple more wickets fell in the afternoon session. Needs something spectacular to take the remaining six wickets before the close of play.

Update 3 - A late rally by the Yorkshire bowlers removed the remaining Sussex batsmen, with Willey (3-26) and Bess (4-51) showing some great form in the final session of the match. Patterson took the last wicket - bowling Sussex captain Brown for 22- with just 5.2 overs to spare, to leave Sussex 215 all out. All the hard graft paid off in the end.

Yorkshire won by an innings and 30 runs (y)

There will be a break of about a month now for one-day competition games, before the County Championship programme resumes.

So far P8 W4 D3 L1, and currently second in our mini-league behind Lancs. Still got games to play against N'hants (who are currently third) and Lancs.

Bess has been called up for the England squad now. Also Tattersall played an extra loan game for Glocs. Don't know if loan is being extended further.

He's not in the current England game that started yesterday, so he probably has enough time. Won't be available for the Yorkshire T20s, but Rashid is now back. Plus Lyth can bowl a few overs if needed.

YCCC Squad news - New signing Sam Northeast is in the match squad for tomorrow. Our five England players are unavailable, plus Frain and Kohler-Cadmore are still injured. Olivier replaces Fisher, Duke is wicket-keeper. Last two fixtures of County Championship "Stage One" coming up...

Northants v Yorkshire (1100 start).

Day One
Weather forecast is not great - showers likely, so play may get disrupted.
Yorkshire won the toss and will bat first. Yorks debut for Sam Northeast today. Link to live stream via White Rose Cricket Forum.

Update 1 - Not a good start for Yorkshire. 36-2 with Lyth out for a duck, and Northeast for 3.

Update 2 - Yorks 38-2 . Rain stopped play. Weather forecast was correct!

Update 3 - Play has resumed. 40-2 now, with Hill and Ballance batting.

Update 4 - Tea : Yorks struggling on 132-6. Good, watchful (and much needed) innings from young opener George Hill (71 n.o.). Thompson on 5 n.o. Pitch and conditions look fairly bowler friendly at the moment.

Update 5 - Yorks 158 all out (Hill 71) and we should have been capable of better than that. Although the pitch looked rather helpful to the bowlers, it wasn't THAT helpful! The experienced players failed to deliver much to help out the youngsters today. Not good enough. Zero batting bonus points again.

Update 6 - Northants 40-0 . Rain stopped play

Update 7 - Close of play : Northants 61-2

Day Two

Update 1 - Northants 110-6 after roughly the first hour. Vasconcelos (55) proved difficult to shift yet again. Bess has taken four wickets.

Update 2- Lunch : Northants 140-6.

Update 3 - Northants 170-9 innings closed (Proctor absent due to family bereavement). Taylor 42 n.o.
Bess took 7-43 - his best ever County Championship bowling figures.

Update 4 - Tea : Yorks 2nd inns 55-3. Another poor start!

Update 5 - Close of play: Yorks 2nd inns 159-6. Tricky batting conditions, and Brook has done well to score 76 n.o. with little support from the other batsmen. Thompson is also still there on 6 n.o. Kerrigan has taken four wickets so far. Match still in the balance.

Day Three

Showers forecast, so likely play is likely to be interrupted by rain at some stage. Proctor returns for Northants. Rumours that Bess will be called up for England again.

Update 1 - Yorks 2nd inns 217 all out. Brook was last man out for 113. Just a pity that no other Yorkshire batsman could keep going for long at the other end. Best Northants bowler was Kerrigan who finished with 5-39. The wicket is turning, but not sure if Yorkshire have got enough runs on the board.

Update 2 - Lunch : Northants 2nd inns 17-1

Update 3- Northants now 37-4. Two wickets each for Bess and Patterson.

Update 4 - Tea : Northants 2nd inns 103-8. (Taylor 40). A couple of wickets for Coad too now. Great afternoon session for Yorkshire.

Update 5 - Northants 2nd inns 152 all out. Stubborn resistance from Proctor (42 n.o.) but Olivier eventually took the last two wickets, and finished with 3-34.

Nine wickets in the match for spinner Bess and good efforts with the bat from young batsmen Hill and Brook. Let's hope they can keep up that standard.

Yorkshire won by 53 runs. (y)

Think we have now just about qualified for County Championship Stage 2 (Division Stage) in the top Division, with a match to spare.

Yorkshire v Lancs at Headingley (1100 start)

Day One

Final game of County Championship Stage One. Squad news - our five England players plus the injured Kohler-Cadmore and Fraine are still absent. Fisher is playing only in one-day games at the moment due to recovery programme relating to previous injuries... so eight players missing!
Ferguson and Stoneman are not contracted to play in today's game. (in effect, TEN players missing!). Northeast is available though. Duke is wicket-keeper.

Update 1 - Yorkshire won the toss and are bowling first. Team news : Leech replaces Olivier.

Update 2 - Lunch: Lancs 98-0. No luck ,or wickets, for the Yorkshire bowlers.

Update 3 - Tea: Lancs 176-1. Davies (84) lbw to Thompson. Lancs look set for a big score.

Update 4 - Close of play: Lancs 273-2 (Jennings 132). A diifficult day for the Yorkshire bowlers, but at least the run rate wasn't very fast. Thompson has taken both wickets.

Day Two (continued...)

Start delayed due to rain. Also seen reports that it rained heavily in the Headingley area last night, so the playing suface may take a while to dry out, even when the rain stops. No play before lunch.

Afternoon update - play abandoned for the day due to rain (No play Monday)

Day Three

Better weather forecast for today (Tuesday).

Not looking so good here - my sister is going today and I told her it was going to be a nice day! Famous last words.

Day Three (continued...)

Good luck to her. Game will restart at 12 noon, if no more rain.

Update 1 - Game has resumed : Lancs 328-2 now

Update 2 - Lunch: Lancs 346-2

Update 3 - Tea : Lancs 411-2. No wickets for the Yorkshire bowlers so far today.
Play has now been suspended due to a drainage problem near the boundary. Sounds like Leech has been injured due to slipping on a wet patch of the outfield.

Update 4 - No further play due to safety problems regarding drainage of the outfield

Update 5 - Yorkshire coach Andrew Gale has just been interviewed on Radio Sheffield. He said that more water was coming up through the surface of the pitch as play progressed. Dom Leech has gone to hospital for an X-ray check.

Day Four

Good weather forecast for today. Should get a full days play, if the playing area has dried out. Yorkshire may even get a chance to bat! Leech has dislocated a joint in his knee, but has no broken bones.

Update 10.30 am- The umpires have decided that play cannot restart due to the wet state of the outfield.
Match abandoned as a draw.
Yorkshire's County Championship Group Stage fixtures have now been completed.
Yorkshire have qualified for the next stage, unless there are penalty point deductions.
