Injury/availability news... Bairstow will not be available for the next County Championship game (v Lancs away ). No update on Malan yet. Fisher is out injured for another month.

18/05/21
Other than Joe Root, no Yorkshire players have been named in the England Test Match Squad.

Transfer news - Tattersall has gone on a short loan (one match) to Glocs, so looks like young Harry Duke is likely to be behind the stumps again for our next game (although there are other posibilities).

Still no more news on availability of Malan.

Think it is just to help out Glocs in an emergency, and to give Tattersall some County Championship game time. Yorkshire have occasionally loaned players in for a few games before, due to injuries (eg Steve Harmison), but I admit, probably not for just one game!

Squad news on YCCC website - Harry Duke retains his place as wicketkeeper . Bairstow and Malan are not available. Olivier, Shutt and Hill are included in the squad.

Lancs v Yorks at Old Trafford

Day One

Weather forecast is good - should get a full day's play. Some spectators have been allowed in to watch. Olivier returns in place of Willey. Late team change - Ballance has picked up an injury and has been replaced by Fraine. Yorkshire won the toss and are batting first.

Update 1 - Lunch : Yorks 57-7. Another batting collapse by Yorkshire, worst one yet (and that takes a bit of doing!). Young keeper Harry Duke is 24 n.o. , and the next highest score is 10. We are missing some top players, and that gives others a chance to stake their claim for a place in the team, but most of them are just not delivering much.

Update 2 -Tea : Yorks 159 all out . (Bailey 3-6). First Yorks County Championship fifty for Harry Duke (52). That was more than twice the total of the first six batsmen added together! Good stand of 77 between Duke and Patterson, with the latter eventually out for 27. Decent tenth wicket stand too, Coad was left on 32 n.o. Bit of a recovery at the end , but still a poor batting performance overall.

Update 3 - Close of play : Lancs 95-1, and well on top. Oliver took the only Lancs wicket to fall so far - Davies , who was out for 52.

Day Two continued...

Update 1 - Lunch : Lancs 150-1. No joy for Yorkshire in the morning session.

Update 2 - Tea : Lancs 266-4 (Jennings 114, Wells 60). Thompson has taken two wickets.

Update 3 - Close of play : Lancs 350-6. Yorkshire could only take two more wickets in the final session, Best Yorks bowler so far - Thompson with 3-64

Day Three

Weather forecast is quite good.

Update 1 - Lunch: Lancs 439-6. (Bohannon 92 n.o., Lamb 40 n.o.) No wickets for Yorkshire in the morning session. Only positive is that Lancs are not scoring particularly quickly - they may decide to speed up this afternoon though.

Update 2 - Lancs 509-9 dec. (Bohannon 127 n.o., Lamb 61). Thompson was the best Yorkshire bowler with 3-68.

Update 3 - Tea : Yorks 2nd inns. 28-0

Update 4 - Close of play - Yorks 2nd inns. 84-2. Decent opening partnership for a change, but then lost a couple of wickets. Need to bat out three sessions tomorrow to get a draw. Seems unlikely, but I would love to be proved wrong.

Day Four

Weather forecast is showing that a full day's play is likely. Yorkshire will need to bat well!

Update 1 - Lunch : Yorks 2nd inns 144-4

Update 2 - Tea : Yorks 2nd inns 208-6 (Brook 52)

Update 3 - Final score : Yorks 2nd inns 271 all out. Batted well into the final session, but it was an "heroic failure" in the end. Bess scored 46 and Duke blocked for 110 minutes for his 29. Young Duke came out of the game with his reputation enhanced again , but Fraine failed again in both innings. Hill didn't do much either. Keeper Tattersall, playing on loan for Glocs. scored 86 today , and may get recalled for Yorkshire as a batsman.
Lancs won by an innings and 79 runs

YCCC team news - Ballance, Malan and Willey are back in the Yorkshire squad, but Root is on England duty. Bairstow not available either. Duke retains his place as wicketkeeper, Tattersall has been left out. Unlike Duke, the other two young players who did not deliver much against Lancs , have been left out - got to take your opportunities when they come! Kohler-Cadmore is a bit fortunate to still be in the squad though.

Some fans will be allowed into Headingley tomorrow for the game against Sussex.

My sister and brother-in-law had tickets for today's game but, unfortunately, he's come down with gout so they can't go.

A shame about that after the long wait - let's hope he gets well soon

Yorkshire won the toss and will bowl first. Team changes - Willey returns in place of Olivier, Malan and Ballance replace Fraine and Hill in the starting line up, as expected.

Update 1 - Lunch : Sussex 63-3. A wicket each for Willey, Thompson and Brook.

Update 2 -Tea : Sussex 163-4. Strong comeback by Sussex. Only one wicket for Yorkshire in the session, taken by Thompson. Brown, yet again, proving difficult to shift (not out 71)

Update 3 - Close of play : Sussex 267-5. Brown 126 n.o. Thompson has taken three wickets. Yorkshire have struggled to make much impact after the morning session.

Day Two

Play started on time. Live stream on YouTube again.

Update 1 - Sussex 313 all out. (Brown 127, Ibrahim 55) . Good bowling from Yorkshire this morning - best first innings bowler was Thompson with 3-53.

Update 2 - Lunch : Yorkshire 26-0

Update 3 - Tea : Yorkshire 153-2. Good opening stand of 83, before Kohler-Cadmore (25) and Lyth (48) were dismissed. Malan (40 n.o.) and Ballance (25 n.o.) have put on 58 for the third wicket.

Update 4 - Close of play : Yorkshire 272-2. Excellent session after Tea for Yorkshire, with Malan 103 n.o. and Ballance 74 n.o. ( a partnership of 182). If only they had been availble for the previous game v Lancashire!

Day Three

Play started on time.

Update 1 - Ballance was soon out, caught by keeper Brown off Carson for 77.
Brook and Malan have put on over 50 more since then and Yorks have overtaken the Sussex first innings total. Sussex have just taken the new ball . Score 339-3 now.
Meanwhile, Glamorgan have just beaten Lancs by 6 wickets ! (y)

Update 2 - Lunch: Yorks 394 for 4. Brook was caught behind, swishing at a ball swinging down the leg side for 49, after previously looking in great form. Malan has played some lovely shots in his 162 n.o.. and Bess is 2 n.o.. Four batting bonus points so far, and we should get the fifth (maximum) after Lunch.

Update 3 - Tea : Yorks 534-6. Malan was bowled by spinner Carson for 199, by a delivery which turned sharply. A pity that Malan just missed out on a double century, but let's hope that Bess can get the ball to do the same later . Duke (54 n.o.) and Thompson (35 n.o.) have put on a further 75 since. Another good session for Yorkshire - maximum batting bonus points for first time this season. (y)

Update 4- Yorks 558 all out. (Duke 54, Thompson 42). Attempts to push the score along after Tea, just led to loss of wickets. Best Sussex bowler was the 19-year-old Atkins, with 5-98.

Update 5 - Close : Sussex 38-0
