Yorks v Glamorgan at Headingley
Day 1
No fans in the ground. Live match stream on YouTube.
Gary Ballance is ruled out due to a concussion injury in training, but should be available for the next game. England players Root and Bess are in the Yorkshire line up. Young batsman Tom Loten is also playing. Yorks won the toss and are bowling first.

Update 1 - Lunch : Glam 79-3. Joe Root's brother Billy is batting for Glamorgan.

Update 2 - Glamorgan 150-7. Yorkshire fast bowlers sharing out the wickets . Bess had a bowl, but not much in the wicket for the spinner.

Update 3 - Close of play : Glamogan 310-8. (Carlson 55, Douthwaite 57). A bit of a rerun of last season today - Yorkshire got off to a good start, but then squandered the advantage, even though the conditions looked quite bowler-friendly. Too often last season we got the main opposition batsman out fairly cheaply, but couldn't shift the tail-enders. I hope that today is not going to be typical of the season ahead.

Day 2

Update 1 - Glamorgan 330 all out. (Hogan 54, Van der Gugten 85 n.o.). Looks like a good score , given the batting conditions. Best Yorkshire bowler was Coad with 4-94

Update 2 - Lunch : Yorks 65 -2. Not a great start - Kohler-Cadmore was dismissed for 11 and Loten was then bowled for a duck . Adam Lyth and Joe Root now batting.

Update 3 - Tea: Yorks 193 all out. Poor batting performance generally , and only just avoided the follow-on.
Only decent performances were Lyth 52, Brook 40, and Bess 38 n.o. at the end.

Update 4 - Close of play : Glamogan 2nd innings 68-4. Great bowling by Coad 3-18 so far, but Fisher is injured, so we are a bowler short and Glamorgan are already 205 ahead.

Players out of position (in the batting order)... unbalanced team selection... key player injured in the first game of the season... reminds me of watching another team from Yorkshire - different sport though.:(

When I read your last paragraph my thoughts went to the NYS too!

Day 3

Update 1- Lunch: No wickets have fallen in the first session. Glamorgan 161-4.

Update 2 - No more play since Lunch due to snow!. Reports on other cricket websites are saying that Coad is now injured too. The bad weather might be our best chance of avoiding defeat now.

Update 3 - Play abandoned for the day due to snow/sleet. Glamorgan still 161 -4.

Day 4

Some cricket websites are saying that Coad and Fisher will bat, if needed. Let's hope they are not needed though. 2nd XI news - All-rounder Waite is out injured, Thompson is recovering from injury, but may be available to play soon.

Day 4 continued...

Final day's play started on time! The Test Match grounds usually have very good drainage these days. Fairly chilly Headingley morning though. Because of the injuries, Yorkshire are going to need the "part-time" bowlers to do a stint.

Update 1 - Glamorgan 241-4 declared (W. Root 110 n.o., Cooke 102 n.o.)
The bad weather yesterday doesn't seem to have changed the pitch very much . Yorkshire need to bat out about 76 overs. (Only lasted 58.2 overs in the first innings)

Update 2 - Lunch : Yorkshire 32-2. Kohler-Cadmore and Loten already out chaeaply again. Plan to use Kohler-Cadmore as an opener has failed. He needs to go back to number three or four in the batting line up. The batting line-up looked wrong, even at the start, and yet to come in later ... three "number 10's" (two of which are injured) and a "number 11", so it looks like we are very dependent on Joe Root staying in a long time to have any chance of getting a draw now. We need to bat out another 60-odd overs, unless the weather can help.

Update 3 - Yorks 118-3. Snow/sleet shower stopped play. Need to bat another 40-odd overs. Joe Root was out for 13. Only a brief interruption 136-3 now. 39 overs left to bat out .

Update 4 - Tea : Yorks 173-3. Good recovery from Lyth (80 n.o.) and Brook (60 n.o.). Yorks need to bat for another 30 overs to get a draw.

Update 5 - Match drawn . Yorks 223-4 . Brook was out for 60 straight after Tea, but a great innings from Lyth (115 n.o.) and useful support from Tattersall (15 n.o.) earned Yorkshire a draw. A good recovery. Not a good overall performance though, and two bowlers are now injured. Hopefully Ballance will be back to strengthen the batting line up for the next game. We are now a bit short on bowlers, though it is a chance for somebody to stake their claim for a place in the team.

Managed to avoid defeat - it could easily have been worse if we didn't have Adam Lyth, who was top Yorkshire scorer in both innings.

Kent v Yorkshire
(Live stream on Kent CCC website, also BBC Commentary on internet)
Day 1

Yorkshire won the toss and are batting first. Thompson and Willey replace the injured Fisher and Coad

Update 1 - Yorks 50 was quickly achieved, (6.4 overs!) but Kohler-Cadmore was soon dismissed (again) for 14 , caught by keeper Robinson down the leg side, off "Bogeyman" Stevens :(. Loten has come in to bat. Kent bowler Podmore has just picked up an injury - makes a change from ours!

Update 2 - Yorkshire past 100-1 now. Podmore back on - his injury can't have been very significant.

Update 3- Lunch : Yorks 128-2. Loten just out for 27. Lyth still there (82 n.o.), with Root (4 n.o.). Looks like a good batting wicket.

Update 4 - Tea : Yorks 240-6. (Lyth 97, Brook 54) . Great innings from Lyth again, but another batting failure by Joe Root (11). Good morning session by Yorkshire was partly squandered by some careless mistakes. Pitch still looks fine though. Bess still batting, 16 n.o.

Update 5 - Close of play : Yorks 358-8. Decent final session of the day for us with an unbroken 9th wicket stand of over 50. Willey (25 n.o.) and Patterson (34 n.o.) were still there at the end.

Why do our England players never seem to do well when they come back to play for Yorkshire? Not the first time this has happened is it.

Day 2
Started on time, but a few rain clouds about. 100 overs scheduled again.

Update 1 - Yorks 379 all out. Patterson 38, Willey 37 n.o. . Best Kent bowler was Stevens with 4-60. Kent bowler Podmore will not bowl again in the game due to a side strain.

Update 2 - Lunch : Kent 59-3. Good start for Yorkshire. Zak Crawley out for just 1. Olivier injured though - hurt his finger - and has gone off for treatment.

Update 3 -Tea : Kent 193-6 . A couple of quick wickets after Lunch, but then once again, we got stuck when Stevens ( now 49 n.o.) came in to bat! Good bowling from Patterson, who has taken three wickets, but some off-line stuff from Thompson , which allowed Stevens to pile on some runs just before Tea.

Update 4 - Close of play : Kent 269-9 innings closed (Podmore absent injured), Yorks 6-0. Good final session today for Yorkshire. Rather unexpectedly, Brook trapped Stevens lbw for 52 soon after Tea, then the tail-enders were gradually winkled out. Best Yorks bowlers Olivier 3-55 and Patterson 3-43. Yorkshire fist innings lead of 110 runs (y)

Day Two
(Not sure why, but earlier post was wiped off!)

Update 1 - Lunch : Yorkshire 113-2. Kohler-Cadmore was caught at slip early in the innings (again) then Lyth and Loten (21) played well with a 75 run partnership . Good session for Yorkshire with Lyth 75 n.o. and Root 5 n.o.

Update 2- Tea : Yorks 171-2 . Another good session for Yorkshire and another ton for Adam Lyth. Lyth now 101 n.o. and Root 33 n.o.

Update 3 - Yorks 2nd innngs 330-5 dec (Lyth 116, Root 101, Brook 66 n.o.) . Yorks piled on the runs after Tea, and have set Kent a big total of over 400. Best Kent bowlers were Denly (2-61) and Milnes (2-68)

Update 4 - Close of play : Kent 2nd innings 33-2. Good start for us. A wicket each for Wiilley and Thompson. Yorkshire in a strong position. Still a good batting wicket though.

Day 4

Update 1 - Lunch : Kent 119-5. Three more Kent wickets fell this morning, one to Willey, two to Thompson. Night-watchman Milnes (46 n.o.) batted through the session fairly comfortably though. Kent will not be easy to bowl out, and the pitch is still playing true.

Update 2- Tea score : Kent 193-6 . Stubborn resistance from the Kent batsmen. Milnes batted through another session and is 71 n.o. now

Update 3 - A deserved Yorkshire victory ! Kent 244-9 innings closed (Podmore absent injured). The Yorkshire bowlers were held up by Milnes (78) for quite a while , but with the new ball , got there in the end. Willey took the last three wickets and was the best bowler with 5-61.Thompson provided useful support with 3-24.
Yorkshire won by 200 runs.

Ballance and Fraine have been playing in a Yorks 2nd XI game . Fraine made a ton, Ballance out for 1! Sounds like they are physically fit enough for the first team though, if needed. Will Yorkshire change a winning team?

21/04/21
YCCC news - Ballance replaces Loten in the squad for tomorrow's game at Hove. Other injured players are not ready to return yet.

Sussex v Yorkshire
Day One

Yorkshire won the toss and are batting first. Ballance replaces Loten. Lyth and Kohler-Cadmore are opening the innings, Pillans is 12th man.

Update 1 - Lunch : Yorks 102-5 . After an opening stand of 60 (Lyth 42), Yorkshire collapsed, losing five wickets quickly, including Joe Root. The wicket looks like it has a bit of life in it this morning. The Sussex team has quite a few youngsters playing, who look very promising.

Update 2 - Tea : Yorks 150 all out. Best Sussex bowler was Garton with 3-25.
Sussex 40-0

Day One continued...

Experiment to have Kohler-Cadmore opening hasn't gone well so far. Root has had one good knock in hIs last five innings. Only Lyth has had a few good scores.

Update 3 - Close of play : Sussex 118-3. A couple of wickets for Olivier and one for Thompson. Yorkshire need some early wickets tomorrow to have a chance of keeping in the game.
