Yorkshire cricket County Championship 2021

23/04/21
Day 2
Weather looks fine. Can't rely on the snow to save us this time, so better start playing better!

Update1 - Lunch : Sussex 212-8. Good first hour for Sussex, and they soon overtook the Yorkshire first innings total, but then they collapsed! Four wickets for Olivier so far and Patterson picked up two wickets in consecutive deliveries just before Lunch.

Update 2 - Sussex 221 all out. (Haines 86). Patterson quickly bowled out the remaining Sussex batman after Lunch, finishing with 4-26. Olivier took 4-61.

Update 3 - Tea score :Yorks 2nd inns. 88-0. Lyth 62 n.o. and playing quite fluently, Kohler-Cadmore grafting away, not always looking comfortable, but still there on 21 n.o.
Good afternoon session for Yorkshire

Update 4- Close of play : Yorks 2nd inns. 163-5. Final session and the Yorkshire batting collapsed yet again. We got back into the game, only to throw away our chances . Only Lyth (66) looked fairly comfortable today . Another batting failure by Root (5). Gary Ballance at least showed some resistance with 36 n.o., and night watchman Patterson was 4 n.o. at the end. Will the see-saw tip back in our favour tomorrow? Probably needs a ton from Ballance to do it, and even then it would need the tail-enders to stay in for quite a while with him.

Day 3
Play started on time - no weather problems

Update 1 - Lunch : Yorks 301-9. Yorkshire still batting - only just. Ballance made 74, but nobody else got a significant score. Then Willey and Olivier did well for the last wicket , putting on over 40 runs and made it to the Lunch break unbeaten. Carson has taken 4 wickets so far. Game probably back in the balance, although the Yorkshire last pair have batted in a fairly untroubled way so far, and the pitch does not seem to be causing the ball to do anything unusual.

Update 2 - Yorks 305 all out. Willey and Olivier put on 51 for the last wicket. Yorks lead by 234. Best Sussex bowler was Carson with 5-85.

Update 3 - Tea : Sussex 2nd inns 59-1. A wicket for Bess.

Update 4 - Close of play : Sussex 136-6. Bess has taken 5-33 so far. Great final session of Day 3 for Yorkshire. We could still be in for a nail-biting finish tomorrow though.
Stop the see-saw - I want to get off!

Day 4
Weather forecast looks ok for the day.

Some stubborn resistance from Sussex captain Ben Brown (46), but he was eventually bowled by Thompson. The Sussex youngsters who were the last pair of batsmen couldn't hold out for very long, and Bess took the final wicket - great catch by Willey.
Sussex all out for 186 (Bess 6-53).
Yorkshire won by 48 runs.

Entertaining and unpredictable match, but we came out on top (y)

Joe Root unavailable for next game. Possible recall for Fraine as opener , with Kohler-Cadmore dropping down the order? Or Loten coming back in?

28/04/21

YCCC Official site - 12-man squad is same 11 who played in previous match, minus Root, plus Fraine and Pillans (No Loten)

Yorks v Northants at Headingley
Day 1
Forecast -a bit chilly, about 15% chance of rain during the day.
Northants won the toss and put Yorkshire in to bat first. Fraine replaces Root for Yorkshire, Pillans is 12th man. Not sure if there is a live match stream, but BBC Radio commentary is on the internet.

Update 1 - Lyth bowled by first ball of the match !Kohler-Cadmore and Fraine have put on 50 since then. Score 51-1. There is a live stream on YouTube.

Update 2 - Early Lunch due to bad weather : Yorks 67-2. Kohler-Cadmore 42 not out.

Update 3 - 2.45pm and score is still 67-2 (raining)

Update 4 - Tea: Yorks 128-5. Difficult afternoon batting conditions ... and Yorkshire collapsed once again.

Update 5 - Yorks 206 all out. We scraped a batting bonus point, at last! Bess was top scoring batsman with 56. Best Northants bowler was Parnell with 5-64.

Update 6 - Close of play : Northants 36-0. Good toss to win for Northants and they have avoided having to bat in the dodgy weather so far

Weather forecast for the afternoon session today is not very good. Morning session started on time.

Update 1 - Lunch : Northants 102- 5 (Vasconelos 47) . A good morning for Yorkshire. Threre wickets for captain Patterson, two for Thompson. No rain disruption so far.

Update 2- Tea: Northants195-6. Slow progress by Yorkshire this afternoon. Zaib was eventually bowled by Willey for 55.

Update 3 - Northants 212 for 7 . Bess has just bowled Taylor for 50.

Update 4 -Northants 234 all out. Three wickets each for Willey,Thompson and Patterson.

Update 3 - Close of play : 2nd inns Yorks 43-3. Poor start for Yorkshire. A duck for Kohler-Cadmore (Why keep playing him as an opener?) and only 3 for Fraine. May need the bad weather to save us again.

Day 3

Weather forecast looks quite good for a full day's play.

Update 1- Lunch: Yorks 2nd inns 145-7. More wickets tumbled early in the session, before a stand of over 50 between Brook and Bess. Unforunately Bess was out lbw just before lunch for 32. Brook is 39 n.o. Yorkshire still in a difficult position.

Update 2 - Tea: Yorks 2nd inns 247 all out. (Brook 39, Thompson 37, Willey 41 n.o.) Brook was out soon after Lunch, but Thompson and Willey then had a partnership of 65. Parnell took 5-79 giving him 10 wickets in the match.

Update 3 - Close of play : Northants 2nd inns 94-4. Play stopped due to bad light and then abandoned for the day. Match back in the balance!

Day 4

Weather forecast is a bit patchy, but there should be enough playing time to finish the game.

Update 1 - After an hour's play this morning , Northants 2nd inns 137-6

Update 2 - Lunch : Northants 2nd inns 174-7. Yorkshire need some quick wickets!

Update 3 - Tea: Northants are 9 wickets down and need 14 more runs to win... rain stopped play! Early Tea taken.

Update 4 - Final score : Northants 218 all out. Last wicket (taken in bright sunshine) - Parnell caught Tattersall bowled Patterson 33. The see-saw finally stopped, and in our favour, as Yorkshire won by ONE run!
Best Yorkshire bowler was Willey with 3-39 and he also ran out Vasconcelos, who was looking quite capable of knocking off the required runs.
Not seen Vasconcelos play before this match - he looks more than useful! Rumours that he is on a 5-year contract at Northants.

Another win, but we have got to get the batting line-up sorted out - we have the least batting bonus points in this division. We have a couple of players who get big scores in the 2nd XI, but seem to "freeze" in the first team. Let's hope that the more experienced players can build their confidence, and show more consistency themselves.
Played 4. won 3, drawn 1 so far. (y)

Team news from YCCC - Joe Root is available for Yorkshire's next game, so there will be changes to the top-order batting line-up. Also - sounds like Coad is almost back to full fitness, and may play too, although the bowling has not really been a prooblem so far.

Also IPL fixtures have been suspended due to Covid. Bairstow and Malan may be returning soon , but will still have to be quarantined for 10 days before they can play

05/05/21
YCCC have announced the squad for tomorrow - Willey is being rested, and is replaced by Coad. Root replaces Fraine. Other than that, same 12-man squad as for previous game
Also news from Sky TV - Bairstow is now back in the UK and is in quaratine. Malan is expected to be back shortly

Yorks v Kent at Headingley

Day One

Should start on time, but showers likely later in the day. Root and Coad replace Fraine and Willey . If Fraine had played well in the previous game he would have probably kept his place and Kohler-Cadmore would have been left out. He didn't though - got to take your opportunities at this level. Yorkshire have won the toss and put Kent in to bat first.

Update 1 - Lunch: Kent 66-3. Reasonably good start for Yorkshire, but Zak Crawley is still batting (38 n.o.).

Update 2 - Tea : Kent 155-4. Slow progress for Yorkshire in the afternoon. Crawley was eventually dismissed by Patterson for 90.

Update 3 - Kent 224-7 now. Coad has taken three wickets. Rain stopped play.

Update 4 - Close : No further play due to rain. Weather forecast was right. Fairly evenly balanced game so far.

Showery weather is forecast for today.

Update 1- Delayed start due to rain

Update 2 - Delay didn't last very long. Kent 254-8 now.

Update 3 - Lunch : Kent 305 all out (O'Riordan 40). Yorks 7-0
Yorkshire were held up by the Kent tail-enders, but Bess eventually took the last wicket. Best bowler was Coad with 3-53. Lyth and Kohler-Cadmore have just opened the Yorkshire first innings.

Update 4 - Yorks 127 -2. Ballance and Root have put on over 50 .

Update 5 : Close of play : Yorkshire 240-5 . A good stand between Ballance and Brook put Yorkshire in a strong position, but then Brook (59) and Tattersall (1) were out in quick succession. Ballance has played well for his unbeaten 91, and Bess is still there on 4 not out.

Update 4 - Bad light stopped play .Yorkshire 308-9. Coad 27 n.o .

Yes, weather forecast is not great. More news...

From "The Cricketer" - Bairstow and Malan are both back in the UK and are still in quaratine. They could be available for the game v Lancs on 27th May, but Root will be on England duty by then.

Squad news (YCCC website) - Young wicketkeeper Harry Duke replaces Tattersall in the squad, Willey, and Root are also included, Pillans is left out. A bit harsh on Tattersalll if he has been dropped from the squad, but it could be that he has some minor injury.

Day Two

Weather forecast looks ok. Should get some play today if outfield has dried.

Update 1 - Yorkshire won the toss and decided to bowl first. Yorks first team debut today for England U-19 wicketkeeper Harry Duke. Willey returns in place of Olivier. A couple of early wickets for Yorkshire : Glamorgan 54-2 after about an hour's play.

Update 2 - Glamorgan 77-6. Good session for Yorkshire with Harry Brook picking up a couple of wickets just before Lunch.

Update 3 - Glamorgan 149 all out. (Lloyd 31) . Best Yorkshire bowlers were Brook 3-15 (his best County Championship bowling figures) and Patterson 3-27

Update 4 - Tea : Yorkshire 10-3. Another poor Yorkshire start, although batting conditions are not easy. Lyth out for a duck, Kohler-Cadmore and Ballance were also dismissed cheaply . Joe Root is now batting with Brook.

Update 5 - Close (Bad light stopped play): Yorkshire 69-4. Root (34 n.o.) and Bess (16 n.o.) are still there.

Day 3

Delayed start due to the wet weather. Early Lunch taken.

Update 1 - Yorkshire 100-7 now. Young Harry Duke was out for a duck first ball. Not what you want on your debut! Only Joe Root has been able able to provide much resistance so far.

Update 2 - Tea : Yorkshire 185-8. J. Root (75 n.o) and Patterson (34 n.o.) have managed to put on 74 for the 9th wicket, to give Yorkshire a first innings lead, which looked unlikely earlier in the afternoon.

Update 3 - Yorkshire 230 all out (J .Root 99, Patterson 47 n.o.) A much-needed 9th wicket stand of 122 and Yorkshire got a first innings lead of 81. Best Glamorgan bowler was Neser with 5-39.

Update 4 - Close : Glamorgan 2nd innings 108-3. Early wickets for Yorkshire but then some resistance from Lloyd (40 n.o.) and Carlson (44 n.o.)
