Yorkshire cricket 2025

Vital Champions League
I haven't posted previously this season on cricket, because I knew that we would find it difficult in County Championship Division One, and I didn't want to tempt fate. Yorkshire ensured Division One survival by a last day of the season victory today (27/09/25) that sent opponents Durham down, along with Worcs. Unlike 2022, the players (amongst them today five who were playing in that awful relegation season) kept their nerve in the final few games, helped out by a bit of crucial overseas help from Imam ul-Haq and Mayank Agarwal. We also got to the semi-final of the One-Day Cup, and had bad luck with the weather disruptions, otherwise would probably have reached the final. (We were fairly poor in the T-20, as usual)... so overall better than I was expecting.

Adam Lyth got 1000 County Championship runs and George Hill took 51 wickets in that competition. I had good days out at Chelmsford (should have won!), Hove (Cup game victory) and the Oval (Surrey were a bit too good for us). Enjoyable season, although we were never far from the CC relegation zone. Good achievement, but we will have to bring in some replacements for players who are leaving. I hope that the recruitment team does a good job.
