Yorks cricket County Championship Division Stage 2021

Looks like Yorkshire have qualified for the top Division (Stage 2 of County Championship 2021) with a game to spare.

Here's where it gets complicated!

In the Division Stage, teams will NOT play against opponents from their original group in Stage 1. Half of the points from those games will be carried forward into the Division Stage .
Winners of the Division Stage will be County Champions 2021. The top two teams then play for the Bob Willis Trophy 2021,

County Championship fixtures 2021 continued...
Stage 2 (Division Stage) Top Division. First fixture 1100 start. All others 1030 starts.

30/08 Hants (A) Match drawn
05/09 Somerset (H) [Scarbro'] Yorks won by an inns. & 33 runs
12/09 Warks (H) [Leeds] Warks won by 106 runs
21/09 Notts (A) Notts won by 5 wkts

Warks champions, Lancs runners-up. Both qualify for the Bob Willis Trophy Final [Lords] (28/09).
Yorkshire finished 5th.

Warks won the Bob Willis Trophy.

County Championship Division Stage - a bonus point weighting has been carried over from the previous stage . We start with the least bonus points , because of all those first innings collapses earlier. Probably need to win all four fixtures to have a chance of finishing top now.

Hants v Yorks (CC Division 1) 1100 start

Day One
Patterson is captain , Duke is wicketkeeper. Olivier and Willey have been left out of the team. (Reports now that Willey is ill).
Hants won the toss and will bowl first.

Update 1 - Lunch : Yorkshire 60-1. Hill 31 n.o. , Kohler Cadmore 13 n.o.

Update 2 - Tea : Yorks 125-4 now . Ballance 36 n.o. , Bess 8 n.o.

Update 3 - Close of play: Yorks 197-6 (86 overs) Ballance 42. Finished early due to bad light. Bess ( 45 n.o.) and Thompson (15 n.o.), were still there at the close. Best Hants bowler was Abbott with 3-46 so far. Difficult batting conditions today, so slow progress.

Day Two
Weather forecast - cloudy, but low probability of rain. Live stream of the match continues on YouTube. Exttra overs scheduled for today, to make up for those lost yesterday by bad weather.

Update 1 - Yokshire 243 all out. (Bess 54) Annoyingly, just missed out on a second batting bonus point as last man Coad was out first ball! Best Hants bowlers- Wheal and Abbott , both with 3-47.

Update 2 - Lunch : Hants 29-3 . Two early wickets for Coad (which makes up a bit for his earlier golden duck) and one for Fisher.

Update 3 - Hants 109-6 now . Vince has been dismissed by Fisher for 49.

Update 4 - Hants 163 all out (62.3 overs). Should have been less, but Abbott and Wheal were allowed to put on 40 for the last wicket. Best Yorkshire bowlers were Coad ( 3-29) and Thompson (3-35). Yorkshire have a lead of 80 runs.

Update 5 - Yorks 2nd. inns. 34-1. Lyth (7) didn't last long again, but young Hill (10 n.o.) and Kohler-Cadmore (16 n.o.) played through to the close. Yorks 114 ahead now.

Day Three
Update 1 - Lunch: Yorks. 2nd. inns. 102-1. Steady progress by Hill (43 n.o.) and Kohler-Cadmore (49 n.o.) in fairly overcast conditions. Right tactics though.

Update 2 - Yorks now 186-2 (Hill 55) . Kohler -Cadmore 71 n.o, Ballance 41 n.o. Speeding up a bit now.

Update 3 - Tea : Yorks 216-3 (Kohler-Cadmore 89). Ballance (46 n.o). and Brook (8 n.o.) are still at the crease.

Update 4 - Yorkshire have declared on 312-6. Great innings by Ballance with 101 n.o. and some useful hard-hitting from Thompson (33). Best Hants bowler was Barker with 2-39.

Update 5 - Close of play : Hants 2nd. inns. 26-2. Good start for Yorkshire, with a wicket each for Coad and Bess.

Day Four
Weather forecast looks ok. Two of the Hants bowlers were injured yesterday and may not be able to bat today.

Update 1 - Hants 51-2 . No breakthrough for Yorkshire in the first hour of play

Update 2 - Lunch: Hants 76-3. Stubborn resistance from the Hants batsmen, but Thompson has just trapped Weatherley, lbw for 43.

Update 3 -Tea : Hants 120-4. The Hants batsmen are proving difficult to shift

Update 4 - Close of play : Hants 177-9 (Vince 42). Yorkshire couldn't quite get a deserved victory. Best Yorks bowler was Thompson with 4-18. A disappointing end to the game

Yorkshire v Somerset (1030 start)

Day One
Patterson is captain, Duke is wicketkeeper. Yorkshire are without Root, Bairstow, Malan and Rashid (England duties). Think Leech is still out injured. Willey is back in place of Coad. Somerset won the toss and decided to bat first.

Day One continued...
Live stream on YouTube

Update 1 - Lunch: Somerset 77-6 with the Yorkshire bowlers making a great start and shaing out the wickets between them.

Update 2 - Somerset 134 all out. Best Yorkshire bowler was Fisher , with 5-41. Think those are his best County Championship bowing figures .Yorkshie have lost an early wicket. Lyth has gone cheaply again, this time for a duck.

Update 3 - Tea - Yorkshire 47-1. Wicket looks quite green, but Hill (29 n.o.) and Ballance (13 n.o.) have survived ok. Kohler-Cadmore has a hand injury and has retired on 1 n.o. No news of the details yet.

Update 4 - Hill out soon after Tea. Kohler-Cadmore has resumed his innings, so injury can't have been serious.

Update 5- Close of play : Yorks 159-5. Kohler-Cadmore was quickly dismissed when he resumed his innings without adding to his score. Although his form, (and that of Lyth) has generally been poor this season, Brook (79 n.o.) continues to impress.
We may struggle to get batting bonus points once again, but we have already passed the Somerset first innings total with plenty of time left in the match. Need to try to build up a decent score now and no need to take risks.

Day Two
Weather forecast cloudy, but low probability of rain

Update 1 - Lunch : Yorkshire 229-6. Yorkshire strengthened their advantage, mainly due to Brook (117 n.o.). Useful partnership of 57 with Duke (9), followed by another 50 partnership with Thompson (19 n.o.). Steadily trying to build the lead - right tactics!(y)

Update 2- Tea : Yorkshire 308 all out. (Brook 118, Thompson 57) . Willey was caught playing a rash shot, when 4 more runs were still need for an extra bonus point. Although Patterson (0) then looked like he would get out from any ball, Fisher made a valuable 15, to get us past 300 and get the third batting point in the bag. Best Somerset bowlers were De Lange (4-55) and the unlucky Davey (4-72) , who bowled well.

Update 3 - Somerset 2nd. inns. 35-5 . Fisher doing the damage again : 4 wickets for TWO runs so far! Willey has taken the other wicket.

Update 4 - Somerset 46-6 now. Thompson has just taken a wicket

Update 5 - Somerset 2nd. inns. 141 all out. Great effort from Fisher today with 4-23. (9 wickets in the match), and staying cool earlier to secure an extra batting bonus point. Thompson did well too with 3-32 today and 57 vital runs. Brook's good batting form continued with a ton.
Yorkshire won by an innings and 33 runs. (y)

Crunch game coming up - Yorks v Warks on 12th September at Headingley

Day Three

Weather forecast is not good. Might be better if today's play is rained off, and Yorkshire can bat in more favourable conditions tomorrow.

Update 1 - Start delayed by rain.

Update 2 - Play abandoned for the day without a ball being bowled. Weather forecast for tomorrow is better. Will playing area have dried out by scheduled starting time? Planning to go, weather permitting.

Day Four

Been to the match - buses and trains ran like clockwork and nice sunny day at Headingley. I wasn't really expecting a Yorkshire win , but I thought that we should be able to get fairly close to the target. Ballance was out to the third ball of the day for 21, then there was little resistance. Fisher finished on 13 n.o., Yorkshire 2nd. inns. all out for 117. The Warks fielding was excellent taking every catch safely and some of those were difficult chances. That is the standard of fielding that we need to aim for. Woakes, Norwell and Miles took three wickets each. Had a wander around Headingley and Leeds City centre before heading back, Pleasant afternoon.
Warks won by 106 runs

Close of play : Notts 292-9 (Clarke 109, Evison 58 n.o.) Best Yorkshire bowler was Coad with 3-71 so far.
