Incidentally, the fair play table on the FA website appears to include cards collected in Checkatrade matches. This is misleading, as they count only towards the Checkatrade competition.

Firstly, we need to clear up exactly who received yellow cards on Saturday. The FA website confirms that Lee Frecklington did receive a yellow, along with Matt Rhead. Radio Lincs suggested during the game that Matt Green was also booked, but apparently not.

Michael Hortin & Steve Thompson suggested on Saturday that League Two referees have the measure of Rhead and are now fully familiar with his antics. They all talk amongst one another and will certainly share information on players. That means he is a yellow card waiting to happen in every game, hence his recent poor record (5 in the last 7 games). He has been booked in 7 of his 18 starts this season, which is not great - that averages out at 18 yellows a season. Perhaps he is going to have to amend his game if he has been found out.

I get it, but refs always need to be acutely aware of bias. It worries me that they might start a game consciously - or sub-consciously - looking to book a particular player. Because then confirmation bias kicks in really easily.

Having said that, Rhead is no angel and does need to stop picking up silly yellows.

My records say Rhead's 8 bookings are for: Bad Foul (x5), Obstructing the 'keeper (x1), Overcelebration (x1), Dissent (x1).
 
Is there an amnesty on yellows in the Checkatrade? Normally is in these sort of competitions. Otherwise the more games you play more chance of 2 yellows

I wondered about that but couldn't find anything in the rules about it.

Does anyone know the definitive answer?
 
Assuming the rules are unchanged from last season:
“If a player accumulates two cautions in the Checkatrade Trophy up to and including the quarter-final fixtures, he will be suspended automatically from the next Checkatrade Trophy match. ”

So a yellow card against Peterborough for Farman, Long, Eardley, Green or Waterfall would mean they miss the semi-final if we get there.

It would also suggest that no player can be suspended for the final unless sent off.
