A lot of people don't like, value or understand "xG" but if we simply think of it as attacking and defending performance - creating good chances at the opposite end of the pitch and limiting chances at the other then it's a good indicator to see how a team are performing. Luck plays a role but these things tend to even themselves out over a full season.
Luke started off the season well, our attacking performance improved as the season went on and defensively it was pretty consistent.
But you can see things fell off a cliff in attack around the end of 2024. Our attacking performance (green) nose dived whilst quite surprisingly our defensive performance slightly improved. But we couldn't buy a goal at this point and it proved to be Luke's downfall - coinciding with speculation linking him to the vacant WBA job.
Sheehan was able to restore and improve our attacking performance as well as our defensive performance towards the latter part of the season.
