There are loads of them out there now that all pretty much do the same so give me your thoughts on the TV Revolution and do you think that subscription TV is a thing of the past for most?

WOW now this is great, my Smart TV doesn't allow me to stream the live streams on matchdays when we play away cos it keeps saying out of storage so these boxes would allow me to stream this i bet, plus you get movies etc is amazing, i think i might change to one of these boxes when my SKY subscription ends tbh Cheers Tubbz dude!

They are fantastic mate

the 1st box i discussed has a program called MobDro on it

this is an excellent app and searches for HD streams of sports and movies

If you have an android phone you can put it on your mobile and see exactly what its all about

Great bit of kit

Surely though, the more people get these, the less money tv companies make, thus forcing them to make less quality tv?

I did try one Prep suggested to get Sons of Anarchy but I couldn't get it to work, forget the site now, got it up on my smart tv but it wouldn't play. Think it would have on my computer but I sit at my computer too much already, I guess that is where a chromecast or whatever comes in, or one like this?

Correct Mate, the browser on your smart TV is pretty awful at playing any video content as it simply doesn't have the codecs installed in it to get ti to work

If you TV allowed you to download chrome and use that as the default browser then you would be just fine

Chromecast is a simple way of doing doing it and is cheaper again but has limited memory

UFC TV is an app on chromecast which will allow you to watch all the old UFC/Pride/Strikeforce events

Please tell me you are paying the £6 a month for it??

Yam a top lad you know,,,cheers dude am doing this today and seeing how it is :35: :7:

No, I get UFC on BT channels Tubbz... love the coverage and the extra shows they do..!

Will see if I can do chrome on the tv, doubt it though.

Mate its all about the back catalogue

There are shed loads of specials and of course all the TUF episodes

I am amazed that as an MMA Fan you are dismissing this, especially considering the cost. Its the same as a couple of drinks a month, surely you owe yourself some luxury?

LOL.. mate, I have to admit, I thought you meant 'please tell me you aren't paying for it'... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SO... I get a chromecast (or the thing above?) and then I put the ufc channel on my computer, set to play and it goes over to the tv without any hassle and I get to see it not sitting at a computer screen...

Would be worth it then just to see all the old TUF's including a few i missed when not broadcast.

Which is best for ease, chromecast?

Still can't believe the so called smart tv, which cost a fortune, then needs something else to do what it should!!!!!!!

I'm quite advanced though, I have netflix! LOL ALthough to be fair, that became a pain in the backside and I had to trawl forums to see how to change the setting on the tv to get it to work (was dead proud of myself sorting it!!!!!!!!!!!!)

lol

Yes mate

the cheapest way to do it would be to get Chromecast

it will however only stream google apps and a few more like Netflix, but in general if it is UFC that you are after then yes it costs just £30 for a chromecast dongle

i don't pay for sky so I only pay for UFC and Netflix so £12 a month

Not bad and I would pay that just for the UFC.TV (this does not have the main events on, only the back catalogue)

chromecast basically streams what you are playing on your mobile/laptop/ipad but works a treat

OK this looks really interesting to me but I have a few questions.

I am fairly IT literate and can do most things with computers - I actually teach online so earn a few bob from them as well ;-)

If I buy a Droidbox will it;

1) connect to my TV using HDMI and not upset my Sky set up?

2) can it legally allow me to watch PL games and Sky Movies

3) the ethernet connection is remote from the TV and the Droidbox would run on WiFi - is this possible

4) What does fully loaded mean and how can I tell before I buy

5) could I run two Droidboxes in two separate rooms

6) What are the issues with computer security and do I need additional antivirus software

I would appreciate some responses to these and any other points - I was attracted by the post that said that he saved £1000's :)

Cheers and PM me if you prefer

Yeah I agree with the above. I have sky half price for another 10 months but I'm using tablets, computer, ps3 TiVo and sky for watching stuff.

Netflix, sky on demand mainly but the wife seems to have everything on series link to record and watch later.

Would be nice for the kids to have tv in there rooms too.

Tubbz, will any of the boxes allow you to mirror what's on your tablet to the TV? I have a Samsung Galaxy 7" Tab and an IPAD 2.
Basically I want to be able to control spotify wirelessly from my tablet and have it play through the sound bar. I managed to get it to work using my phone and a Roku streaming stick, but it was only playing throuugh the speaker with no bass from the sub woofer.....I couldn't get any of the tablets to mirror, so took the stick back.
Any help appreciated mate.

I've got a Technomate box, and pay £30 per year for a Cline which gives me all Sky Channels, sports, movies, Pay per View, smut, the works.

Only problem is nat bust the external hard drive so can't record, rewind, pause at the moment.

Will get a new one when I can afford it.

So glad I made the switch though. Sky is a bloody rip off.

Deano in the voice of Terry Tibbs "talk to me"

Would this replace a Tivo box or do you need a dish? Is it easy enough to navigate for a non tech female?

Not really mate, its a pain in the arse as it's all Linux based and I don't know Linux.

My mate at work has had it for years so sorted it all out for me. If he ever leaves or falls out with me I'd be buggered. lol

Box was £150 (could have got one for £70 but I wanted dual tuner and HD), and I paid £30 for the 12 months subscription.

Sky was £70 per month so I've already got my monies worth (had it since October), so figure even if it all goes tits up now it's been worthwhile.

Back to the drawing board then, cheers for the info Deano. Tubbz, can you please have a look at my question on Page 1?
