Xavi Simons - player thread

He's one I think could explode under Poch if Poch still has the fire in his belly to develop players like he did first time around. Feels like his ceiling is very high.

One of Odobert or Tel may step up too. Gray, Bergvall, Udogie, Spence, Sarr, Vuskovic and a couple of academy players all solid shouts for players he could improve too.

Palace fans are saying it's the biggest waste of money in football history.

I agree with you though, he's not a great player but he got goals for us. In the right system (Ange's) he's a very useful player, and the fact we didn't replace him was a joke.
That was my point Scott, Kudus is more of an assister than a scorer so we lost the best part of 20 goals a season.

Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi will call on his experience playing as a No10 to help get the best out of Xavi Simons.
The 22-year-old Dutchman arrived in north London to much fanfare last summer and has impressed in flashes across the front four but generally struggled to keep his form up.

He produced one of his best performances of the season on Saturday, though, as Spurs drew 2-2 with Brighton. He assisted Pedro Porro’s opener and his second-half stunner had De Zerbi’s side on track to secure three vital points in the relegation battle before a last-gasp equaliser from Georginio Rutter condemned them to a second week in the relegation zone.
Neither Thomas Frank nor Igor Tudor managed to get the best out of Simons, but De Zerbi suggested he knew better than his predecessors having spent much of his playing career in a similar position.

“He played very well, a great game,” said De Zerbi of Simons’ performance against Brighton. “I think he can play better and better, because a player like this, he needs to feel confidence from the manager.
“And I stay here to transfer all the confidence he needs, because [when] I was a player, I was number 10, and I think I know what he thinks, because I thought the same when I was a player.

Xavi Simons made little attempt to hide his frustration at full-time after Tottenham drew with Brighton

“I think I'm lucky to have this player on my team, but also he's lucky because with number 10, I can understand better than other coaches.”
Frank plied his trade as a midfielder in his playing days, while Tudor built his reputation as a no-nonsense centre-back, winning a brace of Serie A titles with Juventus.
De Zerbi, meanwhile, specialised as an attacking midfielder during his journeyman playing career and has a track record for developing players in similar positions, with the likes of Alexis Mac Allister among his pupils.

He hopes he can repeat the trick to help Simons hone his talent, adding to SpursPlay: “He's lucky to work with me - not because I'm good, because I was number 10.
“What he thinks now, I thought 20 years ago. So, we have a special connection. I have a special connection with all No10s I work with.

Netherlands attacking midfielder Xavi Simons has said he is "heartbroken" after being ruled out for the rest of the season for relegation-battling Tottenham and this summer's World Cup because of a knee injury.
Simons was carried off on a stretcher in the second half of Tottenham's 1-0 win at Wolves on Saturday with reports, external he may have suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
The 23-year-old fell to the ground following a collision with Wolves defender Hugo Bueno and, after initially getting to his feet, went down again.
"They say life can be cruel and today it feels that way," Simons wrote in a social media post.
"My season has come to an abrupt end and I'm just trying to process it. Honestly, I'm heartbroken. None of it makes sense."
The injury to Simons comes amid Spurs fighting for Premier league survival.
Tottenham are in the relegation zone in 18th place and two points from safety with four games left.
The 2026 World Cup, which is taking place in the United States, Canada and Mexico, begins on 11 June, with the Netherlands starting their campaign in Group F against Japan on 14 June.
"All I've wanted to do is fight for my team and now the ability to do that has been snatched away from me … along with the World Cup," added Simons.
"Representing my country this summer … just gone. It'll take time to find peace with this, but I'll continue to be the best team-mate I can be. I have no doubt that together we'll win this fight.
"I'll walk this path now, guided by faith, with strength, with resilience, with belief, as I count down the days to getting back out there.
"Be patient with me."

Getting to the point if I was a spurs player I would be refusing to train at our facilities. It has to be linked to our pitches. It’s ok every so as it’s not effecting opponents but it must just be a build up of fatigue on the joint.

Honestly I would rip up our entire training pitches and have them relayed immediately. The stadium pitch needs huge investigation

It's no coincidence now is it.

I know ACL injuries are generally more common in women's football but do our women's team suffer from a high rate too? Granted there is didn't workload in game frequency but if the training facility is a problem then you would imagine if would impact them aswell.

we have so many women players out from ACL's still today and has been going on for a few seasons. Not enough research being done IBH - is it the boots, the new types of pitch, size and weight of the ball, maybe too much Gym work, the style of play ???, managed minutes - so much could affect it.

It's probably a mix of all the things you mentioned, like I keep saying it's no coincidence so many players are getting this type of injury in the last 2-3 years.

In the PL they were:

4 in 2023/2024
11 in 2024/2025

They was 12 this season up to January, add Odobert & Xavi and that's at least 14. I assume there may be more from other clubs since January as well.

If both our men's and women's teams are suffering from above average ACL injuries then it's hard to overlook it being a facilities issue.

Do we have separate physio/strength and conditioning departments?

Of course it has nothing to do with playing every three days for six months of the years either , does it .

UEFA have a lot to answer for because of their greed .

International breaks are hardly breaks are they ,
FIFA are no better .

Players are just cannon fodder now , and have been for years.
Three players injured doubles the load on the uninjured players and then it just becomes a never ending cycle of pressure on joints and tissues .

Limiting a club in who they can play to a finite number , and where the players were born , is ridiculous when the organisers are trebling the amount of games being played ,

Between them, the FA , The PL, UEFA , FiFA , Owners and the PGMOL are grinding this game into the ground through stupidity and greed .

Anyone got any idea what happened to the mid Season Break . ?

Oh yeah , the clubs used it to fly to America for a friendly !

I do believe that Muani is the only member of our squad to have not missed a game through injury this season , I could be wrong but I’m saying that through memory , I haven’t googled it .

He missed a month or so shortly after joining didn't he? and had a knock since then.

Porro has probably been our most ever present but he had a knock at one point too

Oh yeah , you’re right mate , didn’t we buy him injured so as to save time getting him indoctrinated?

Get him to feel at home straight away , and not let him feel Isolated from the main group . !!!

I think Porro has only just come back from
a hamstring holiday . …….
