I think this may be a financial decision more than a footballing one. The ground lease has hit them very hard, and their poor start to the season was the last thing they needed within that context. I presume it cost them something to get rid of Mills, although Wrexham fans believe there may have been a deal done with York City. There have been some hierarchical changes this week too, possibly suggesting there is some disagreement as to the club's current direction.

Interesting times for them.
