Just wondered what peoples thoughts were on Allsop and the goalkeeper situation in general.Would you have Allsop as no1 (or 2) with Vickers either 1 or 2 releasing Farman?

Depends on his keenness and wages. Ideally I’d like him as backup to vickers, although practically I’d rather have a cheaper option as backup and a loan if necessary like this year.

Yes, I think he’s good at this level and improving. Could take him to League 1 as a decent second keeper

It's an odd one, you want a good number 2 to put pressure on No 1, but on the other hand at our level with a small squad, keeper is probably a position where you can't keep 2 happy.
He's certainly good enough

He's good enough for L1, but so is Vickers. If Vickers is fit for the start of the season money would be better off spent elsewhere. Allsop will not want to come here as a backup only

we already have vickers and a good back up in farms , sooner money spent on 2 forwards

Agree with this, although the jury may be out on whether Farman is a good enough back-up, or indeed whether he’d be prepared to spend another season as a second choice.

On the former, the Farman loyalists out there need to look at Mansfield at home, Notts home and away, and Swindon at home for evidence that we were actually quite fortunate that Vickers got injured during the transfer window. If it had happened in early Feb and we were stuck with Farman, I don’t think we’d have made the playoffs.

Vickers looked by some distance our best keeper this season, and I’d venture that Alsop will be looking for a first team place when he moves on from Bournemouth. His very solid spell with us will have put him firmly in the shop window of any League 1 or 2 clubs needing a new keeper, and assuming Vickers’ issue is sorted, I personally think he’ll end up elsewhere.

In a perfect world, we’d sell Farman for a fee and get Alsop in on cheap wages with an understanding he might not be first choice. The priority - as Mr Westbank rightly says - is that we maximise our budget to secure the 2 quality forwards our squad needs.

No. Will always remember that save at Wembley, but I believe Vickers to be more assured and the back four calmer and more effective with his influence. Farman good back up.

What ever happens Ryan Allsop can be justifiably proud of his stint whilst at Sincil Bank. He has played his part in getting us to where we are right now - in the play offs and Checkatrade winners. He has pulled off some quite remarkable saves, remember the Checkatrade penalties against Chelsea and who could forget that tremendous save in the final at Wembley, also Coventry away and only last Saturday he played his part again, these are all small margins. He came here with confidence that he could do a job and he wasn't wrong. I wish him well and would certainly welcome him here as the clubs number 1.

I'm sorry, but if Farman isn't good enough for League Two, he certainly isn't good enough for League One if we go up. I would have Allsop here in a flash, because he has done a great job for us. At the same time, I think Vickers should be No.1, so would Allsop be willing to share GK duties?

We need to have 3 keepers capable of playing in any situation.
So (unless even better alternative available) definitely sign Allsop (with him & Vickers vying for No1 with Farman seeing out contract as 3rd keeper).
ANY injury or red card for a keeper and 3rd choice goes straight onto bench for possibly several or more games. So u cannot safely run with just two.

Completely agree with this. I love Farms and he's more than put in a great shift for the club, plus he's a club man and great personality to have around, but must admit I do feel less than 100% confident with him in goal at L2 level. Would sign Allsop in a heartbeat - he's proved he's as good if not better than any keeper in this league. To play the way he did against Chelsea, in his first game for us, and play against a top L1 side in a Wembley final for me says he is easily good enough for L1.
