World's biggest racket.....the pet industry

More pissed off than anything because I missed out on this opportunity to gouge pet owners.

My wife just came home with lamb and Okanagan apple. Dog food.

80, is your wife treating the dog better than you ?

In my case I treat my dog better than my missus. Why wouldn't I ? She shows lots of affection, gives me loads of kisses, wants to sit on me all the time.

But I still prefer the dog.

you are a strange man 80

My friends just paid $6,000.00 for an operation on their dog.

I'm strange?

Other friends buy whole chickens put them in the blender and feed it to their Nova Scotia Duck Trolling Retriever.

I'm strange?

I see a lot of dogs wearing "winter boots" now.

I'm strange?

This is a billion dollar industry and growing.

we only had exotic dog food to go by!

Ha. This morning I saw duck and Bartlett pear being served. FFS!

The thing about dogs is you can lock them in the boot of your car or the study when they annoy you and when you let them out they're forgive you and treat you like it was all their fault - trying doing that with your wife.......

If everyday meals consisted of things like duck with bartlett pear and lamb with Okanagan apple why would you ever lock your wife in the TRUNK of your car?

Dogs now get pedicures. How long before women and dogs go to the same spa? Which means spa prices will go up.

Has anyone sent their dog to a dog psychologist? We have a local dog whisperer that just moved into our area. She is rather hot and recently divorced. The jokes about that are endless. She is an emphatic NO when it comes to making party lists. None of the wives want her anywhere near their husbands. Something about whispering and the minor differences between dogs and men.

I prefer most dogs to humans. Would happily pick the drowning dog over the drowning human.

That gives "bark like a dog" a whole new meaning.

Anyway, the original point was that over here the amount of luxury money spent on pets is astronomical and growing. There are HUGE margins in this stuff.

My dog has duck and plum biscuits, rabbit and cranbury biscuits, dried fish skin scratchings ( they stink ), dried duck meat strips, milky biscuits, markies, gravy bone biscuits, chicken hide balls with hidden treats like kinder eggs, fresh uncooked beef marrowbone bones, fresh raw chicken wings as they are with bones ( she eats it all ).

Her main meal is cubed uncooked chicken breast.

When I have a piece of cake she wants that an all.

Is she spoilt ? He'll yes but she is a little treasure, fiesty and full of mischief. Pomeranian Maltese Cross, but looks mostly like an apricot Maltese.

We took her to two fun dog shows last summer, won best cross breed in the first show she had ever been to, second one she got 4 th prettiest bitch, she was robbed , we stomped off in disgust. Not that we take it seriously of course, it's a fun show....fecking bastard judges

At the show a playful Husky tried to pin her down by putting his paw on her back, she went ballistic, sent him packing with his tail between his legs. The other day a German shepherd tried the same thing, she cooly stepped to one side like a boxer swerving a punch, looked at the beast towering above as if to say.....you'll have to be quicker than that sonny !!

She makes me laugh all the time, priceless.

Seriously now....my wife made her/our dog organic liver biscuits - dog loved them, her friends one by one - all dog owners started asking after them as she shared them in her dog walkies parties during the day.....and before you know it they were giving her money for bags of them - 300% margin.....

Dog owners are nuts.

How much did you pay to get into the dog shows?

Nothing, my wife's Mum was at one point a show judge, and she'd drag my now wife all over the country - so well known on the circuit and always got in for free....my daughter for about 3 years would attend shows at weekend, set up a stall and earn a very respectable income from it before she went to Uni.... :17:

My antique shop is part of a farm complex with tearoom restaurant, mower repairs, dog grooming, dog hydrotherapy, garden shed sales, farm shop etc. It has a huge car park , is right on a main trunk road , large population catchment area.

Before this thread came up I was thinking posh pet nosh could do ok there.

I'm still laughing. Dog hydrotherapy? WTHF? Is that like dogaerobics in the pool? A dog enema?

However, sell away. Anyone who spends money on that kind of thing will spend ridiculous amounts on food for their pet.

I rest my case. Send me the formula. If it works I will pay y'all royalties.

I have a business associate who paid to give his dog swimming lessons!

I love my dogs but they eat regular dog food, not the ridiculously overprice "gourmet" food. I have a great dane i couldnt afford it!

She has arthritis in her hips and our vet told us to get her human medication as veterinary meds were 3 time the price! At her size he is able to take a hunman dosage so we save a ton.

The largest house built last year in our area, 12,000+ square feet, was built by a vet. Next time I drive by I will take a photo.
