This doesn't sound good.

However, the YouTube statements have two big problems at first glance. The first is the claim that discovery is currently based on user choice. That's stretching credibility already and only half true, if that. I'd say much less.
The second is that digital voices are much less reliable than the much-maligned 'legacy media'.

BasilTheGreat, a right ring extremist, is actually a good example of this.

"BasilTheGreat (a prominent influencer and account on the X platform) is not considered a reliable news source. The account is primarily a high-profile political commentary channel with a strong ideological focus, known for frequent sharing of unverified claims, misinformation, and inflammatory content.

Misinformation & Corrections:
The account frequently shares claims that are debunked or called out as "untrue" or "bollocks" by major public figures, politicians, and official bodies (such as the Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham or Reform UK MPs).

Content Moderation:
The account's commentary often pushes boundaries—for example, it was involved in controversies regarding the spread of misinformation following major UK civil incidents.

For reliable reporting, you should always cross-reference claims made by this account with trusted, fact-checked journalistic outlets or official police and government statements. "

The account has literally shared the screenshots from YouTube’s own statement…. It’s true and it’s scary. Ultimately YouTube is a private platform and whether I like it or not, they’re entitled to set their algorithm as they please.

The UK government has no business whatsoever dictating which broadcasters are forced onto the people because THEY decide what’s right and wrong. It’s dictatorial and whether people want to overlook this or not, it’s becoming the norm when you consider things like digital ID.

Come on, let’s stop normalising state controlled media, ITTO.

Several things to unpack here.

I'm opposed to state controlled media but the UK will remain liberal and pluralistic.

Youtube and others are absolutely not allowed to do whatever they please. Nor should they be. I'm sure we can think of examples of content that should not be freely available online. That means there is, and always will be, some form of state control on private platforms. The only reasonable argument is where the line is drawn.

They might be Youtube's own words but they're not the whole truth, are they? Then think why they might be opposed to it?I t might be an altruistic desire to maintain free speech... Or it might be money. Push comes to shove, it's always money.

BasilTheGreat has posted some facts on this occasion but, if course, with a spin. That's him at his best, his least toxic form. It only goes down hill from there. He's an extremist that stirs up shit for a living. I would be interested to know who funds him in addition to Musk's X algorithm that very explicitly rewards and artificially promotes extremists (from left and right but very much dominated by the right). It's not natural, it's very deliberate. It is now designed to break nations and democratically elected governments. There are very few safety rails on promoting division, racism and hate like there are - rightly - with newspapers and TV.

I hate the concept of digital ID but I suspect the practicalities of it will win the argument. We all have plenty of digital IDs already, owned and operated by people with no democratic checks and balances and nobody seems to give a shit until they demand that people should show ID to, say, vote.

But how are we going to know how utterly moronic 99.99% of right wing youtube is if we're not allowed to watch it?

Seriously though, I worry for channels like Coffeezilla who do amazing investigations into big companies, governments, crypto scams and things like that.
You never see that in the major news orgs but they are current events and they are absolutely a necessary thing in an age where corruption is rife, companies routinely take the absolute piss and anyone can scam anyone on the internet.

Some serious stuff happening with Nigel Farage

Everybody, possibly apart from his most politically unengaged base, know he is a grifter, not a grafter. That is priced in.

But he is already being investigated over the £5m that was not declared. The verdict on that is due any day, and he could be suspended from parliament. Anything over 9 days and his constituency can recall him for a by-election. The threshold to recall by petition is low, so it would be likely. This is what put Johnson out of parliament, as he couldn't he arsed to even stand again

He claims that he didn't have to declare the £5m. The rules contradict that.

But now it has come out that a convicted fraudster has been paying all his bills before the election and letting him stay at his house. Staff, security, social media output, drivers- all paid for by George Cottrill

This should all have been declared and it wasn't. Any gifts over £300 that are even vaguely related to political activity have to be declared for the 12 months before you are elected as an MP.

Farage's excuses are many and thin as fog.

He claims on the one hand that he didn't need to declare any of this because it was a gift from a friend, which is exempt. That is not true- personal gifts from family or romantic partners are exempt from declaration. Otherwise you could claim Elon Musk was a friend and that's why he gave you a spare billion.

His other excuse is that he was not a politician at the time so didn't need to declare. Despite the rules being clear about 12 months before behind elected, Farage, who had set up a political party, was leader of it and fought for local elections as it's leader, and who needed staff, drivers, security and social media output paid for by George Cottrill- apparently was not an active politician because he has not yet decided to run for Clacton

Even his most ardent supporters must surely realise how farcical this excuse is.

His personal polling is falling. He has been laying low, except for the car crash round of interviews last week where he attacked journalists for asking about the £5m and changed his story again, claiming he could spend it on ferraris if he wanted to- man of the people

This could be the beginning of the (an?) end for Farage

Imagine actually being so ridiculously lucky that despite never having done an honest days work in your entire life you might end up being PM, but you are such a cheapskate you risk all that for a bit of free stuff.

Brilliant statement. A risk. And I think the final chance to set the UK on a better economic course.

We are heading towards the icebergs . And more taxation will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

No to more tax

Farage is going to "make a statement on his public life" at 2pm

I wonder what that is...
Clever by Farage, but can backfire

Basically it is an absolute and total admission of guilt. If he thought for one second that the Parliamentary commission were going to clear him, he would let them clear him.

He knows the outcome of that is going to be damning, trigger a by-election anyway and reveal who he really is and works for to the electorate

He has therefore done the logical chess move- lean heavily into the hard right victim complex, blame the establishment (and what can be more "establishment" than being given £5m with "no conditions" by your rich mate?) and call the by -election before the commission finds you guilty and reveals the sordid details of how bought you are.

The problem for Farage is that the counter move is so logical that even Rupert Lowe has already done it- all the other parties boycotting the by election in Clacton.

They must do that, which will starve Farage of oxygen. He won't be able to get his victim bollocks out there, he'll be re-elected as the only candidate with no victory- and then the commission can come back with the sanction and the parties can contest the second by election, when the electorate have heard the full story of who Farage is and who he works for

He will still be scrutinised if he gets re-elected . I simply don’t trust Labour led committees to come to a fair and impartial view. And his base will back him even more . Trump won this way twice

This is the Parliamentary standards commissioner who will decide whether Farage has broken the rules.

It is a person, not a committee, and he has nothing to do with Labour. He was appointed, I think, under Boris Johnson

This is not America

Farage is claiming to be a man of the people, yet is taking £5m from a crypto guy that was investigated (the "gift") for money laundering

He is claiming it is people Vs establishment.

I don't see getting £5m off a mate being very "people". What could be more establishment than that?

Farage is an absolutely perfect establishment stooge tbh.
He will literally do anything for money.
He accidentally praised the IRA for 70 quid ffs.

Looks like are Nige might have miscalculated slightly.

Now he has to fight an election against Count Binface, and there's just no winning that, even if he wins. He literally can't avoid looking absolutely ridiculous.

If it's the people Vs the establishment, I think Nigel Farage might be looking like the establishment, and Count Binface may be the people
Kemi Badenoch, with a savagery that both surprises and impresses

God when even Rachel Reeves is mocking you you know you've taken a serious wrong turn somewhere.

What has surprised is how little sense of humour Nige's supporters have. My dad made a post on Facebook, just a small post taking the piss a bit, and one woman replied 15 TIMES to the same post talking about how disgraceful it is, about how the 'establishment' is scared of Farage blah blah blah.

They've clearly recognized how utterly idiotic Reform looks right now and are scrambling to try and make themselves look a serious group of people.

Unfortunately that is what we call 'fighting an uphill battle'.
