World Cup fees

Saw something on a Villa news site about clubs benefitting from having players at world Cup. 8,500 US dollars per day for time at tournament, plus one day, plus two weeks prior to start. There is a lot of funny money in football.

That works out at about £45k a week. For prem players that wont even cover their weekly wage in a lot of cases but we would likely to be making a decent profit after it covers Morsys pay.

If that figure is accurate that means we'd most likely be getting in the region of 200k for Morsys time away with im guessing say 40k of that covering his wages and 160k ish profit.

It's a nice little sum for a club like ours that can hopefully go into giving Samy a new contract . I Just hope the lack of a summer off doesn't really hamper his form in the upcoming season.

I suspect the World Cup may be the reason behind the rumoured temporary signing of the lad from Bournemouth. Apparently he plays a similar role to Morsy so they could be covering for his likely tiredness.

How the f*** can he be tired. He's played a hours football at most in the last 4 weeks and has another 5 weeks or so to get his breath back. Tired?? Give it a rest, he is twenty odd years old, as fit as a fiddle and will have spent 10 - 12 weeks lying in the sun most of the time being waited on hand and foot. If he isn't back on the training ground with the rest of the squad next week then its not on.

Morsy said himself they've been doing intense training nearly every day since the season ended with Egypt. That's pretty much a full year now that Sam Morsys body hasn't had a proper break since last years pre season began. These are peak athletes pushing their bodies as hard as they can playing at a level where fine margins can make a big difference - they need a long break physically and mentally if they want to be 100%. Not to mention a chance to break from the discipline the players keep during the season when it comes to the rest of their life - being very careful with their diet, early nights, not able to go out in the evening too much etc - these guys are paid very well for the sacrifice but they are still human and will probably enjoy a month or so where they can eat and drink what they like and such.

Now Morys team mates have had 6 weeks off or so and are back in pre season training which will gradually be getting everyone into peak shape. While Samy will get maybe 2 weeks then rejoin training after missing the first few weeks and be playing catch up. 2 weeks off isn't a lot when you consider the amount of impact on the players joints and muscles that accumulate over 12 months of what will be a much higher level of training than the average person would be able to keep up with. If every player at the club and in the league only had 2 weeks off then everyone would be in the same boat but that isn't the case and there's no doubt Sam wont have been able to prepare and recharge as well as others when he's missed 2 or 3 weeks of preseason and lost out on 4 weeks rest. It's relative.

So many footballers all over the world for so many years come back from world cups or European championships not looking their best - Jonathan Jackson talked about it last week and look at Griggs season 2 years ago he was so jaded after the world cup. Granted the step up in level was also a factor but the player himself and management did make a comment about the disrupted preseason being part of the problem.

I think on the face of it being a footballer is easy and fun, but in reality it can be just as hard or even harder than many other jobs in completely different ways we don't even realise. If anyone is interested a book like 'the secret footballer' gives a good insight into a lot of the parts of football we never see or hear talked about.

Grigg came back just fine, he never kicked a ball at the Euros and played all our first games scoring four in his first five. Soft arse excuse. Morsy will get his well deserved rest and will come back probably next week or the week after. He’ll be ready for Sheff Wed no doubt about that.

And Grigg suffered the only major injury of his career the following season. Morsy will have a disrupted pre season and won't have had anywhere like as long off as the other players. It happens very often that players that are part of World Cup and Euro squads suffer from fatigue at some point during the following season. Their bodies don't get the same rest as players not involved.

Do you not think that his drop off in form and even his work rate decreasing so rapidly after those first few weeks had anything to do with the accumalitive fatigue that comes from not having a full break to recharge properly or a full preseason to give them a strong base for the rest of the season?

How many times do we see players at so many clubs come back after a major tournment and looked jaded? It happens accross the board to too often to just be coincidence.
