Winter 2017/2018 Transfers and general rumour mill

Apparently after a player at hearts named Jamie Walker. Can play on either wing from what I read. Pacey player just the type we need. Contract up next summer so looking to get a deal sorted.

We were linked with Jorge Grant the other week. He's a midfielder on loan at Notts County from Forest

Also linked with Motherwell player Louis Moult - has scored 14 goals so far this season. Could do with a player who can find the back of the net on a regular basis like Grigg did a few seasons back.

Wigan, amongst other clubs, have been taking a look at an ex Chelsea youngster playing at Solihull Moors .... Oladapo Afolayan

Not sure if the club are actually linked to this player.
It does appear that Wigan are looking at players in the League of Ireland.

and an article that includes Jack Byrne

If these rumours come true ... who allowed him to be released ?

To be fair though, I don't remember too many people disagreeing with moving him on at the time it happened.

Wigan must have hired a Scottish scout based on the linked players .....

Yes, probably the same experts who thought getting shut of Bogle was a spiffing idea.

I think opinion was split on Bogle, but I don't remember anyone disagreeing with the decision to let Hendry go.

I didn’t disagree with us letting him go as it was clear we weren’t going to play him. I did disagree with him never getting a chance to play for us. I remember being annoyed that he never got a chance at the start of last season when he’d done well in pre season and we were shipping goals for fun. He was one of those who while very raw clearly had potential and would have shined with a consistent run of games. Another Caldwell masterstroke.

Very raw ....... Hence the reason why he was first sent out on to Shrewsbury (2016) and then on loan to the Mk Dons until January 2017 ?
He disappeared after returning, although a few of us watched him play at Christopher Park. Gawd knows what happened after though .... a season in League 1 might well have helped him further.
It will be interesting to see who progresses furthest ... Chey Dunkley, Terrell Thomas , Sam Stubbs or Jack Hendry.
Should also add Reece Burke to that list

Did Shrewsbury or MK ever express an interest in signing him full time at the end of his loan I wonder?

From what I saw of him he looked to have talent but was young and raw. Perhaps the thinking at the time was that it would take to long to develop him into a first team player and better to move him on. That's the problem with football its all about perception, if the manager doesn't think you will fit his system you get sidelined and many a talented player has been let go at some point in his career. There is a possibility that the same will happen with Jack Byrne.

Didn't Hendrys loan get cut short by MK Dons? I think WJ (Shudder) brought him back last January.

I think TB has it correct about mangers perception. Also a high turn over of managers equals a high turnover of players.

Let's hope Latics included a hefty sell on clause in any deals for released players.

The last time i saw Hendry was a night cup game a while ago (Blackpool i think) i think he went to chin someone late in the game, he played well that night and remember saying he was one for the future.

Obviously someone had a better idea!

Thought Hendry looked a real talent, wouldnt be surprised to see him go to the Premier League. Reminds me if the Alfie Mawson situation bizarrely got released by Brentford went to Barnsley in a free and soon later got a big money move to the Prem and has been great.

Not as big a cock up as Granqvist, quite clear that at 22 he was a very big talent and we let him go for 600k, absolutely appalling decision probably the worst sale ever by the club. Swedish player of the year ending Ibrahamovics long run and captain of the national side.
