I sort of agree but might put it slightly differently. At this stage of the season players in Hawkins position, and a couple of others, will attract interest of some sort. Enquiries are made all the time and usually rejected for obvious reasons. A couple of new factors apply, first there are clubs in the position we were in last year. Second most players want to play and some might gamble that a move now might be easier than not playing and joining a bigger group looking for work in Summer. In any event I wish Hawkins well he's done what we signed him for.Agree with all that bar the first sentence.
I think Hawkins will be strongly encouraged to agree a deal elsewhere and we will see a mutual termination.
If a National League club offered Hawks a 2 year, or longer, contract it might well be in his interest to take it. We don`t know the financial status of his contract at GFC - if it`s generous and there`s still good time on it, why would he go ? With all due respect to the Hawks (he did the job he was signed for - and we stayed up - we`ll always reflect fondly on that) he`s probably a decent NL player from this point on in his career. The extra he brings, in terms of being versatile enough to do a job in central defence, won`t go un-noticed by those in the game at NL level. I believe he`ll find another club.Who is gonna sign Hawkins? Only way he leaves is out of contract or a pay off.
Who would be insane enough with his injury record(we will prob extend his contract now)
No one wil leave in January i reckon (except loan maybe) and we will mention this come the end of January for a crap transfer window and the end of the crappy season.
We`ve rarely seen the best from George. I`ve always liked him and believe he still has lots to offer. For whatever reason, it hasn`t quite clicked for him at GFC but he has enough quality in his game to interest other clubs. Was interesting Lapslie wasn’t in the squad on Saturday. Is he injured? Or just being prepared to be moved on in January?

Depends on the value of the new contract against his current deal. Certainly 2.5 year contract even at half wages would probably work although the agent would be pushing for the club to ensure he is no worse off over the remainder of his current contract. It's all about who blinks first.Agree.
I choice of 6 months guaranteed pay OR 1.5 / 2.5 years is a no-brainer for Hawkins.
Agreed, but would a club further down the pyramid commit to offering a contract as long as that to a player with a chronic, possibly recurring, condition that could side line them for nearly half a season, as it did with us?Agree.

If LSB2 is right, then possibly.
In a financial sense? I was referring to contracts. If LSB2 is right, it'd be pushing it to call that a move "down the pyramid"!
He runs around a lot (good work rate), presses the defenders well, and pops up with the very occasional goal. Also likes an injury. We`ve rarely seen the best from George. Seems to me that one of his strengths is timing runs into the box. Unfortunately we get the ball forward so slowly that by the time anyone crosses it, all the opponents' defenders are back and there's no space for him to run into.He runs around a lot (good work rate), presses the defenders well, and pops up with the very occasional goal. I don’t think he’ll be a great loss overall, should probably have at least double the amount of goals he has for us and a few more assists as well
We've rarely seen the best from many of our signings. Jonny fallsover, hutton, nolan, dieng, lapslie, etc. not sure any showed us their bestWe`ve rarely seen the best from George. He’s not unlike Johnny Williams in that respect, that he doesn’t fit well into our team and has more goals and assists elsewhere.Seems to me that one of his strengths is timing runs into the box. I think he'd be very effective at this level if played in the right system, but it doesn't look like it will happen at the Gills unless Bonner can get us playing with a bit more thrust.
Unlike nibbles, I’ve never been wrongIf LSB2 is right, then possibly.
Shopping?Hawkins is off to Bromley apparently.
There’s two reasons not to go shopping in Bromley. One is because it’s shite, the other is you might bump in ‘58…Shopping?
