Will Janssen come good now?

Are there any glimmers appearing that Janssen is actually likely to come good? Pochettino's stable position of sticking with him seems quite an indicator that he thinks that he could.
We've just seen Janssen take a powerful shot straight at goal last weekend, albeit that it hit the GK. We have also seen him not even picked at all. The conundrum of his previous past is quite probing to the thinking. Such a reputation in Holland but where is it now? He runs around quite a bit but for me rarely gets into a goalscoring position and when he does, misses the mark. But I just can't get the idea out of my mind that he scored all those goals.

The thought that he could start scoring soon is one that I am beginning to quietly believe in. SURELY with daily training (and Pochettino is not stupid, obviously he will be getting him the relevant proper coaching for his problem) and setting various combinations of players around him, trying out different thinking. What is in my mind is this, Pochettino is no slouch, the man's a thinker. I know he can't use what's not there but the 'evidence' is that the bloke has scored prolifically elsewhere. So will Janssen start soon? Will we soon get the breakthrough that Pochettino should be able to manufacture? We have till the end of the season to get something started. If, in our games to come we get a usable period where we go ahead of opposition teams, will Janssen coming on break the duck and come good?

I'm beginning to believe he might. I'm just eyeing a 27 goal possibility and I can't make up my mind whether it could happen.

But he does not get any significant game time, so not sure how your point will happen TOTAL ...he gets crumbs of game time in the last 10 minutes or so.

As I said when we bought him, we were almost forced into buying him a season too soon; he actually has everything to score goals, that said he really wasn't prepared or properly fit enough for the intensity and pace of the PL, and in my view forgot to do what was getting him scoring like he was in Holland.

I said when he started that we wouldn't see the best of him until the backend of this season or next - for now I'll stick by that, but come the summer I suspect he and Poch (and Levy) will decide his future.

I still think he's good enough to make a big impact.

Whether he is on the pitch for 10 minutes or 60 he doesn't show the skills and technique necessary to score. We need more from him than one goal in open play, question is, does he have the tools to do it.

If you'd watched the Dutch games (as I do!) you'd have thought we'd landed a future megastar, he showed there he could do just about anything, I was impressed. My coaching friends there had one reservation and that was his rise had been meteoric and that he still had a lot to learn.

I do think he's got the tools, but in my view he tried too hard to be a pressing, workhard, passing teamate and lost the strikers selfish streak he had in Holland.

It could just be, as it often does, that the physicality, the speed, the intensity, the pace of the game here has simply found him out - that transition for many a dutch 'star' import has often proved beyond them...

If we retain our patience, I still think he can make the grade and surprise the view - the £20 mill question is will we or will we cut our losses in the summer and only make a small loss?

Another setback for luckless Spurs striker Vincent Janssen
The striker just can't catch a break as he's struck down by illness

Vincent Janssen has been dealt a further blow just as it looked as if his confidence was coming back into his game.

Janssen has been omitted from Holland’s travelling party to Bulgaria for tomorrow’s World Cup qualifier due to illness.

The striker had missed Thursday’s training session and was left behind as the squad travelled to Sofia.

Paulinho scored a hat trick for Brazil last night and Spurs fans can't believe it

It comes as an untimely blow to the forward who is in desperate need for minutes on the pitch.

The 22-year-old thought his chance in Spurs’ starting XI may come due to Harry Kane’s injury but Son Heung-Min was preferred in attack against Southampton.

Spurs have a hectic schedule in April with seven games and the striker will play his part in the coming weeks.

Janssen has struggled in north London since his move from AZ Alkmaar in the summer, but a goal in the 6-0 win over Millwall in the FA Cup looked like it had given the striker a much needed boost.

However, this latest setback will have been a major blow to the striker who was set to lead the line for his national team in Bulgaria.

Manager Danny Blind has indicated a willingness to stick with Janssen and he is hopeful that he could be back for Tuesday’s friendly at home to Italy.

I saw some of the the goals he scored in Holland, using his left foot, right and head. That type of finishing impressed me too. Then I saw a horrible miss against CP at the Lane that still stays with me. That was his signature to welcome himself to the fans but he fluffed it. Since then it's been a snails journey climbing the mountain, we haven't got the time to wait for maybe.

...Why not, we all waited 2/3 seasons for Lamela to come out of his shell, then he fecks off back to Italy for a sabatical!!!!! :2:

Don't get me started on our one trick pony Greavsie. As far as I am concerned we are still waiting, game-changing, match winner he is not.

He rarely changes games because he starts them and sets the tone and tempo. When he is subbed off the game changes. He is either taken off because the job is done or if he has worked his socks off and is tired.

When he has come on as a sub which is rare he has markedly injected attacking play and improved chance creation.

The reality is he isn't good enough for where we are or want to be.

I'm sure he would do well at a smaller club with less ambitions.

The standard of the Dutch league these days is woeful, its a slightly better SPL - The Dutch national side is a joke as well.

I think he would struggle in the Championship personally, he is no better than Glenn Murray and Tomer Hemed when I have watched Brighton this season - Would one of those have done worse than Janssen this season?

He is technically weak however high his work rate is.

I would cut our losses in the Summer.

Mauricio Pochettino purchased Vincent Janssen for a staggering £17m last summer and now we find ourselves, nearly 12 months later and the Dutchman is spouting out quotes claiming...

Think he comes over quite well personally.

However the only way he is going to get more time is to be less rubbish, even his cameo against Soton was comical!

He needs to pull his finger out & when given the opportunity grab it with both hands or else he'll be gone come the summer.
