Will it be Frexit next

Not sure it this should be anywhere else JF? If so I am sure you will move it :14:

Going on the exit polls so far the presidential race in France is between Macron V Le-Penn. If I am correct with what I have read this is the first time Le-Penn has got to the last 2.

Macron I believe is pro-Europe however is prepared to have a referendum (not so sure that is your best idea considering what happened in The U.K)

Obviously Le-Penn wants to take France out of Europe. Is there likely to be another populist shock?

Does all this have any affect on The U.K and globally? Thoughts please

................................................................................................................
Two weeks to go

In the run-up to election day Sky News Europe Correspondent Mark Stone will be sharing his thoughts about how the race is progressing.

It looks like everyone who doesn't support Le Pen will vote for Marcon to prevent Le Pen becoming president.

It looks like this one is over but you never know.

Le Pen shouldn't be too disheartened. Marcon is unlikely to change anything so she'll have even more support next time, if she keeps a strong hand in.

If Frexit happens that's the end of the EU , domino effect .

Being utterly cynical Silhill I hope Frexit does happen: I don't see why The U.K should put up with this on our own :14: I am being deadly serious

I'm a big supporter of a Western European EU. I think the worst thing the EU ever did was to try to engulf Eastern Europe. Perhaps if it had been a slow process of one country at a time over decades, it might have worked but bringing in Eastern Europe en mass meant that Western European unskilled workers had to compete for their jobs with people who would work for far less.

Big businesses benefitted greatly at the expense of the European citizenry.

I think, no matter what happens, there will be some form of EU left even if it's only a customs union.

Either way the EU is in serious trouble. It needs to take seriously the concerns of its people or the EU will not survive.

Frightening a member of the national front got to be runner up but lets just be thankful she was defeated.

Proof that it's not just UK politics that is in a bad state.

But I hasten to add that isn't exactly a silver lining!

interesting Macron campaigned on
120K reduction in public sector jobs and £50 Billion worth of cuts
and reduction in workers rights

wonder how that'll go ?

A couple of people have said to me that Macron is the Gallic version of Tony Blair. :10:

Definitely no Frexit now Macron is in the Élysée Palace. He is well into Europe. Here's what he thinks of Brexit:

I am a hard Brexiter. I think that Europe has made a mistake negotiating the inter-governmental accord [the “special status” deal David Cameron struck with the EU in February last year]. It created a precedent, which is that a single state can twist the European debate to its own interests. Cameron was toying with Europe and we agreed to go along with it, which was a big mistake.

Britain must understand that our interest in the medium to long term is to have clear rules. So if Britain wants to trade with Europe it has to choose a model, such as the Swiss, Norwegian or Canadian. We have to accept that there are losses. But it’s the British who will lose the most. You cannot enjoy rights in Europe if you are not a member – otherwise it will fall apart. Europe is what has enabled us since 1945, in an unprecedented way, to preserve peace, security, freedom and prosperity in our continent.

The British are making a serious mistake over the long term. [Foreign secretary] Boris Johnson enjoys giving flamboyant speeches but has no strategic vision; the turmoil he created the day after Brexit proves it. [Former leader of Ukip] Nigel Farage and Mr Johnson are responsible for this crime: they sailed the ship into battle and jumped overboard at the moment of crisis. Theresa May has handled it but what has been happening since then? On the geopolitical level as well as on the financial, realignment and submission to the US. What is going to happen is not “taking back control”: it’s servitude.
