Geofspurs sent us the following.
Every football league on the planet experiences fierce rivalry between certain teams. It's the nature of the sport, any sport, and it adds to the competitive side of the game and is one of its most emotional aspects for supporters everywhere. Nowhere is this rivalry more evident than in the English Premier League where there are few competitors as fierce, emotional, intense, or potentially explosive than those of Liverpool/Everton, City/United, and Newcastle/Sunderland.
In football, history has a way of changing rivalries. Certain games and certain incidents can elevate any team into the fierce rivalry stakes; maybe a Cup Final, maybe an incident or two during games, or maybe the dislike for one particular player can change the way supporters view certain teams, sometimes with long-lasting consequences. So, it's quite normal for supporters to have developed an intense dislike for a particular team and the reasons for this are many.
As a long-time Spurs supporter I have always seen ars*nal as our greatest rival or, more correctly, the team I most want us to beat. That's just the way it was back in the day when I first started going to the Lane. It's also a matter of basic geography. Both are North London clubs (albeit ars*nal, as a club, was not born here!) and so the fan base for both teams overlaps within the same community. Few situations make for a greater rivalry than this. I have never viewed any other team, London based or otherwise, as our main rival although I can understand why other supporters might view this differently. I have simply viewed all other league teams as teams to beat.
Which leads me to the question...
Which team do other Vital Spurs posters enjoy beating the most, and why?
