Who is our best player?

I came across a HITC article about players who were too good for the Championship. Two Villa players listed were Snoddy and Hourihane. It got me thinking about who our best player is.

Last season it was easily Kodija. Who is it now?

Kodjia for me, but Jedinak a very close second. As SJH says, Kodjia has the power to change a game in moments, and whether he can keep up his goalscoring exploits will make or break our promotion challenge this season.

Very hard to define "best" player when comparing as a whole against the various positions on the field !?
Keeper - Johnstone
Defender - Terry
DCM - Jedinak
ACM - Hourihane
Winger - adomah
Striker - Kodija

Potential - Davis

We have some good players, all suitable candidates, as Silhill has pointed out, and some others fairly close as well. But think Kodjia, for us at the moment, has the edge. Think he will get better, as well. Hope he doesn't get injured again!

Think it's pretty obvious that Kodjia is our star man, just look at our record with him in our team and without him. The one player who provides creativity and a goal threat to our side.

We could go all American and ask, "Who is our MVP"? I always think that's what fans are driving at when they talk about "best" players, certainly in relation to your own club. As you say, it's impossible to isolate one individual player for a variety of reasons.

A better question might even be, "Which player can you least afford to do without?" or "Who is your most important player?"

It always does my head in when people talk about "Best Player in the World" or "Best Goalkeeper in the World" or whatever.

Is Manuel Neuer, playing for one of the best club sides in world football and one of the best national sides , "better" than, say, Thibaut Courtois, who plays for one of the best club sides, but not such a decent national side. They are both fine shot stoppers and command their areas well. Who's to say?

Or is Cristiano Ronaldo "better" than Lionel Messi? Their records are pretty similar, and they play for amazing club sides and arguably below-their-potential national sides.

How long is a piece of string?

I thought it was curious that the article listed Snoddy and Hourihane. Kodija was definitely our best player last season. Albert had a great first half of the season and an anonymous second half. At this moment, I'd say that Albert is our best player. However, Hourihane is coming on strong and seems to be having more influence on games.

Johnstone hasn't been busy enough to show us his worth. Hopefully, he will have an easy season.

Easily Kodjia.

Terry and Chester after that.

The rest... well if we go up I'd be worried about facing the Premiership with them.

And to think, when we signed him I was gutted that we didn't get Hernandez from Hull and though Kodjia was a bit of a panic buy.

Probably the 1st time I've been wrong about anything... ever...
