Who invented the "Press"?

Some people like to think that our very own Porky is the man who invented this system. That is untrue though as it has been around for ages, and I always thought that its basicss were put together by Biesla of whom Porky is an accolite.

According to this article though, it pre-dates Biesla who isn't even mentioned. What is the truth?

Interesting article. I assumed that some form of press had always been a part of the game in some variation of another and that it was just a matter of degree and specific execution. Trying to pin down the precise origins or giving credit to a specific person for its invention seems like a bit of a mug's game.

I watched the Liverpool team from the mid 70s to the late 80s use it to devestating effect. It's like Art with different schools of say impressionism. Does anyone actually care if it was Monet or Renoir who invented it. Seems an empty argument.

To anyone who has an interest in Art then, yes, that does matter, and the different "schools" usually have a "master" to whom a style is attributed.

I am surprised that on a forum like this the only responses are that it doesn't matter. Still never mind.

You're correct. I'd be very interesting in reading some learned responses and discussions about the offshoot evolutions.

Yet again, not sure where you have this idea that fans think that poch has invented the press.
Straw man argument..
