What would you change about football?

Inspired by the BBC's Ending Traditions Poll I was wondering what everyone thinks needs changing in football.

1) ONLY the captain can speak to the referee. Anyone else gets fined 10k on the spot. And if you touch the referee it's an automatic yellow card as well as the fine. If the team crowds around the ref the captain gets a yellow card and a fine along with the manager.

2) A player review committee. Made up of former players, this committee would review any fouls or dives not called/dealt with by the referee on a weekly basis.

3) Spitting is an automatic 10 game ban with a 100K fine.

I read this one on the BBC site and liked the idea: 1 point for a draw as long as there were goals scored. A 0-0 draw results in 0 points.

my only gripe with excessive post-reviews is that it will replace the job of the referee. will the referee make difficult calls if they know the correct actions will be taken in retrospect anyway. In my opinion we need to provide TV evidence on the fly - we know it all exists. The FA just don't want to be in a situation where the evidence is put up on the screen in high-def slow-mo and the ref still makes an incorrect decision.

refs can hide behind the exucse they didn't see it. perhaps a group of officials can make decisions based on the screen and inform the ref of what the appropriate action should be.

agree with the rest though 80.

The NHL used the player review system to great effect.

Don't agree with item 2. Which former players would be used and from which club? All former players would be biased in favour or against the club in question. Ex Spurs players sitting on a Spurs based enquiry would be biased 'for' their team so whichever way, it wouldn't be a thoroughly clean decision.

Spitting at other players definitely needs sorting, decidedly!

I like the 'nil point' idea for a no goal draw to most degrees but if both teams played their hearts out but couldn't get a goal, it would be demoralising for the players, all that work, they kept a clean sheet and now get a point penalty for it. Just a thought but agree in principle.

Sorry, 'edit' I would punish shirt, shorts, clothing, body pulling heavily, we need to stop this and get back to skill based football and punish ANYTHING that detracts from it.

Allow in play on field attention to injured players like in rugby union.

Use of sin bin for yellow cards.

Refs to get tough on holding in penalty area.

Loans only allowed for U21 players, no loans allowed between PL clubs.

I know Ade didn't work out in the long run but there's no need to be so drastic. He's not coming back!

I like the sin bin idea 'Whiteghost', it seems to work in Rugby, 'wouldn't mind trialling it in football.

PLEASE no one suggest that we have cheerleaders and all that American HYPE. I know they're nice to look at but I couldn't stand the silliness of it all.

I would love to get back to the old days of football matches which was all about atmosphere and supporters. I wouldn't want to go back to fans fighting and all the dishonour it brought to clubs and I wouldn't want the bad practices on the pitch such as cropping, bad tackles etc. And a bit less drink (I'm not saying none) on the terraces might make football matches better for taking the family to.

This is one thing I'd definitely change. It's infuriating to watch the shirt pulling inside the box with no punishment at all.

Only one window.

A sin bin wouldn't work as in the likes of ice hockey they have different line ups & change their formation accordingly.

There's definitely room for more substitutions. In this day & age to have only the three is somewhat silly. I'd like to see them introduce as many as five. Hopefully they'll look into this again.

Then there would be lots of fake injuries.

I would increase subs to 5 in total. This is to rotate and prevent injury, allow development of more youngsters and utilize the squad tactically.

No way should we have more subs. Managing from the pool of resources on the bench is part of the managerial skill set. Clubs like cite and the Chavski already stockpile players more substitues would make it worse. Like the only captain speaking with the ref. No sin bins wrong sport.

Completely agree.

The club's having some say in their own scheduling.

It serves BT right that today's game against the Chavs wasn't the classic they were hoping for, it never was going to be with their ridiculous scheduling of it.

Europa games on Tues/Weds.

Yes, almost there for me. Good post 'Big Chiv'. Certainly we need all Premiership teams who play in Europe in ANY competition to play on the same nights so as NOT to give any advantage to their Premiership rivals. Today we played Chelsea who had 2 days more rest than we did and in my mind gave them an advantage, I thought that if we were more rested than we were, we could have beaten them.

Better than that, if it's possible, we need to play Premiership, FA, Capital One Cup games in such a way as to not give advantages to any team with more rest days. I can't believe we have allowed these variances in match timing to occur in the first place. It's an awful mish-mash of planning. I can hear the chant 'too many games' again but it's true.
