As I sit here with my carrot and ginger soup wondering what the hell is going to happen next with Spurs this random question popped into my head.

Home made chicken noodle soup with asparagus.

That sounds good. My wife's vichyssoise makes a terrific outdoor summer lunch. Not sure it is the best I have ever had but it is close.

Another tangent, has anyone else ever eaten at Carnivore's outside Nairobi?

Zuppa di pesce. In an Osteria in Venice. Soffritto base, pureed with sun blushed not dried tomatoes. Squid, red mullet, mussels, lobster tails. It blew your mind 80.

That sounds fantastic Don. One of the most enjoyable meals I have ever had was in Venice. And every time I bring it up I have to ask my wife what the name of the damn restaurant was.

I was in naples, italy a few weeks ago and the restaurant I was in made there version of cannellini bean soup. Best soup I had ever. Had a good kick to it.

I watched the first leg of the Athletico Chelsea game in a square in Venice last week mate(a group of random neutral Italians cheered when Terry was carried off hurt LOL)Wish I was back there now , as for names I know how to find the place but don't know what the place is called either. I'll ask my girl so if you ever go back. Also had a fried fish platter that is one of the single best things I ever ate.

One of the tastiest soups I have ever had was by a Company called the Covent Garden Soup Co., and it was called 'Mixed bean soup' They then stopped making it and I was gutted. I was mad and phoned the company in the end and asked what the hell was going on. (I know, I'm a litttle terrier when roused). To me it was their best product. They were quite dismissive and said that they had just decided to discontinue the line. When I questioned them, they said they would be not bringing it back. GUTTED.

Apart from that, a mixed veg, lentil, or Asparagus Soup of the day that you get at a good restaurant, made freshly by the chef, is usually really good.

A fish soup in Spain , more of a stew really, had everything in it, shellfish a plenty.

Gazpacho or cream of wild mushroom and watercress.

The New Covent Garden Co sprung up in my greengrocer days in the 80s. I used to buy from the NCG market, they were based there and as you drove past all the pallets of carrots and onions etc were outside their factory. They bought all the reject gear that no decent greengrover wanted.

Just my perception of course.

There is a divide in culture here. It's ok liking HCT but thinking it's the best is a little sad. The same people who like HCT probably go to Greggs.
