What is Sturgeon's Agenda

Should Scotland get another vote on independence. ? Is May right to oppose it at the moment.? What is Sturgeon really up to ?

Think they should due to a lot changing since the original vote.

We can't have it both ways, we voted to "take back control" they should have the chance to as well.

They have been completely ignored with the Scottish concerns

Keep voting till you get the required result seems to be democracy at it's finest.

Lol. It's like "He's not my president". Uh, yes, he is.

Yes they should have a referendum but only once the negotiations for Brexit have concluded...then they would have the mandate to accept or freject those terms independently of the rest of the UK, and choose to leave the if they vote accordingly. Of ourse that does not mean they would automatically gain new entry into the single market

I'd very happily give them "Independence" if that's what they want...

Then they can hand their "independence" staright over to Brussels (although a small gaggle of the 27 would move to block it - as they don't want to encourage their own separatist movements).

That said, the latest pool of pools etc suggests that the result is likely to be the same.

Shame really, Scotland's GDP deficit is bigger than Greece, there is little or no prospect of a big increase in oil prices (last year the net contribution to government from oil was a paltry £68 million !!) - so by rejoining the EU it would have austerity measures that would make the ones imposed on Greece look like a walk in the park.

The positive part of that is that Scotland would have to drop it's socialist the state pays for everything agenda and come into the real world and learn to become competitive - it may well take them a whole generation to do that and they would have to raid Pensions and the better off for a decade or so, but eventually the Scots that have come to rely on the state paying everything would have to finally and at long last change - and that would be a huge fillip for us it's nearest neighbor and more importantly for the Scots.

Of course it would also see the end of the Scot Nats as it dawned on people that they'd led them into an economic nightmare, that might take a couple of generations to get over.

I can promise you without fear of contradiction no one in Brussels wants them in the EU on their own or in the EEA/single market - the EU's budgets and objectives will and are changing, and they'd never let them anywhere near the Euro in their current state, so they'd have to have an 'independent' pound linked to the UK's pound and their sovereign borrowing costs (if they can find creditors willing to lend) would be absolutely horrible...

Sturgeon will have walked them into a financial maelstrom that they cannot and could not control - they'd be in IMF control unless they were prepared to do things they refuse to do now such as take a huge cut in public spending...

Good luck to them.

Scotland voted remain, on the whole, so from their point of view they're being dragged out of the EU by the rest of the UK... similar to the original Scottish independence argument which was that they suffer through Tory rule because of the rest of the union, despite the tories rarely doing well up there. So you can understand why this would spark a fresh debate on it.

But, there's no guarantee the EU would take them on their own... especially if Spain has any say in the matter, because I imagine inviting separatist nations into the EU would set a dangerous precedent in their opinion, especially considering the on-going Catalonia and Basque country issues.

I don't understand Sturgeon. Surely she must know the implications financially. So what is her agenda ? I would advise the people of Scotland as suggested to wait and see how things develop with Brexit. As Ex says it would be unlikely Scotland would be allowed into the EU on their own. Is it true they wouldn't be members of Nato either ?

They'd have to leave as the SNP policy of non-nuclear and being non-aligned would see them have to exit...

So totally exposed and on their own. No support from UK, EU or Nato. It seems suicidal. I think perhaps Theresa wants time to educate the Scottish people on what life will be like.

I love Scotland, on my visits I have of course been blown away by the scenery but the people I have met have been friendly. The population is of course more sparse than down here and gives an impression of freedom. The architecture I also like with stone built chalet type designs.

I can't blame the Scots for coveting their beautiful Country but they need to be sure they are doing the right thing.

I lived up there for 20 years and have a great affection for the country, but deep down many Scots are proud and nationalistic and have resented being invaded so long long long ago...the desire to be independent runs deep..........I blame 1966 ha ha

Quebec. Same deal.

If they want it let them have it. Let them dig their own grave. Some people are too proud for their own good.

If we're British, and I am, I would want Britain to stay together. Staying together makes sense, we stay stronger together and have more income together. Scotland has been duped by politicians who are looking out not for the people of Scotland but for their own fame or in Nicola Sturgeon's case, infamy. I personally think (and really hope) that she will come unstuck and the Scots will turn against her and the SNP. They have little income to stand on their own in the future, they just need good management and the Labour Party and the SNP haven't given it to them.

One question I ask is, "if they want to leave a close/native union like Britain, why would they want to join a bunch of foreigners and join their union?"

I don't WANT to see the Scots dig their own grave, I want to see them get good government and have a stable and strong economic future and stronger rather than weaker ties to the UK. ONLY AN Idiot would split a closely joined union up and expect them to still remain strong. The sooner the Welsh get rid of Smurf headquarters in Cardiff the better, too.

At the end of the day, a strong economy is the best for Britain, not with a government that taxes and spends money like water. The whole country needs leading out of this outdated thinking where people think everything should be free and the government should pay. We HAVE to earn good money as a WHOLE nation and divide up the spoils fairly and properly back to ALL of the people and that doesn't mean ANY sector demanding more than they should. We need to come together and decide how we can take this nation forwards.

HOW ABOUT A REFERENDUM TO DITCH REGIONAL GOVERNMENTS AND HAVE A NATIONAL CENTRAL GOVERNMENT DEDICATED TO MAKING WEALTH FOR THE WHOLE NATION AND SERVING IT IN THE BEST WAY.

My guess is though that the politicians would only want something that supports THEIR way of thinking, rather than the people's and at the end of the day, they'll lead the people down any old path that pops into their heads that makes them popular for five minutes.

I can see you in the lead of the movie Dr. Zhivago, The Second Coming :89:

'MISSING: NICOLA STURGEON' First minister told to return to DAY JOB by local constituents...

Disgruntled residents living in Govanhill, Glasgow, have plastered their community with pictures of the Scottish National Party (SNP) leader pleading for her to get back to her local duties.

The tongue-in-cheek missing posters are emblazoned with the message: “Missing from Glasgow Southside since 5 May 2011.

“If found please return to her to the day job.”

I said this the other day. She needs to get on with running her Country well and dealing with issues. She may then get the trust of her people. She has an overwhelming and consuming dream she can't let go of.
