"What Are They Talking About?" Quiz - no. 11

It could be David Herd at the start of the 72-73 season. I seem to remember he wasn't very happy at some of the performances.

I'd like to think it was typical of the more honest of numerous opposition managers after a thrashing from the Imps.
Has anyone said Phil Stant?

Graham Taylor in his first season as manager in 1972/73 during the winless start?

It WAS Graham Taylor but not then. For the rest of the points can you - or anyone else - say when he said it?

I'd half expected that the reference to getting the sack might have given a clue - thinking of that notorious 'fly-on-the-wall' documentary about his time as England manager.

Evidently not, so I'll say that it was a week before the start of the 1974/75 season following some desperately poor performances in three pre-season friendlies including losing 1-0 to Chelmsford City and by 4-1 at home to Charlton.

Something I always cite when pointing out that pre-season matches are never any guide as to how things will turn out in the season to come.
