Wharton Loan End

Very good player and plays well above his age. Gives the centre half pairing a natural balance with his left peg.

Yes did very well. I expect him to feature for Blackburn in their pre-season and he could easily force his way into their first 11. I am sure that the Cowleys will keep an eye on this though and if he's not featuring for them nor loaned out to a League 1 team by the end of August he'd be very welcome back here

Given how happy he seemed in his time here, I wouldn't rule out a return under the conditions Sedgley mentions. He would be very welcome!

the difficulty with a loanee - especially one on the up like wharton - is the end of loan/recall factor. what we need to avoid imo is having the defence or spine ripped up again in january.

Agreed - a left sided CB who is comfortable on the ball and has a goal threat is invaluable these days. Great maturity for a young lad. I think if we had been promoted he could well have come back here on loan next year. Unfortunately I think Blackburn will want to up his level of football to L1 now that they are Championship again, unless of course they want to introduce him into the first team this year.

He reminded me of a slightly more polished version of Raggett, which you'd expect given that he's been at Blackburn, whilst we were Raggett's first FT Club.

I really rated Raggett (of course), Dickie and Wharton, but we need to have someone who's here for the foreseeable. It's such a key position for us and the way we set up.

Agree.
Our best spell this past season was in December, and I put a large part of that down to the settled CB pairing we had. Then January came, we lost both Raggett and Dickie, and started slipping back in the table due to the massive disruption.
Loan Players are helpful, but with hindsight it was a mistake having two of them paired together in such an important position. Hopefully a lesson learned for next season.
