West ham or spurs

Official Papal prediction

Don't think either will win today

West Ham down

Nuno will leave by mutual consent

West Ham appoint Scott Parker

Nuno goes abroad or to whichever one of Palace, Fulham, Bournemouth don't get someone new and exciting.

Spurs under De Zerbi finish top 8 but not in the CL places next season

People need to get over Villa "disrespecting the league", or whatever.
Who wouldn't have restted loads of players for the European final? I'd have been pretty angry if the roles were reversed and we risked our main players on a meaningless (for us) game.

It’s not so much the resting of players, nothing wrong in that, using your squad.
It was the attitude, they seemingly weren’t bothered and didn’t seem to attempt to right the wrong at half time.

Weve seen that with us this season

But it wasnt deliberate

It does happen

Dont think they threw the game. But you never quite know I guess

Nah. No excuses .

It wasn't about the rested players. They had an ok team out

It was about the way they played, which would not have won a league 2 match. They didn't attempt to run, duel, attack, defend, jump... Those players will have worked harder in testimonial games

The standard of performance was so vastly far from good enough that people naturally assume that they were under orders to take it easy with the game against us- and that is not acceptable

It does happen but I expected a massive reaction at half time, at least effort wise given what was at stake for the league.
It just didn’t come.
I doling think they threw it, I just think they weren’t bothered.

They weren't remotely bothered about the game and that's what you get if you aren't on it.
The additional pressure on us in the league made them even less bothered about a result. A nice silver lining (for them) to the inevitable outcome.

Roles reversed, we wouldn't have given a single shit about that game either, nor the league's integrity, nor any whining from other parties. We would have found the last one funny.
On here, people would have been advocating throwing that game to pile pressure on elsewhere.

We should stop whining.

We put out more of a reserve side than Villa did and beat Chelsea. That's what a bit of application does.

It's a 38 game season and a professional football club should NEVER "sack off" a game like that. If you want to protect your stars then protect them and send out a team that is willing to put their bodies and their lungs on the line.

It's not whining. It's basic expectations of people who are privileged enough to be professionals in this game.

As Pope said it's a 38 game season , it brings the integrity of the league programme into question if not fulfilling your fixtures in the appropriate manner....i.e: trying to win.
It was a disgrace.

But a position we would love to be able to get ourselves into in the future

We know the more successful you are the more games you could do with where you are not caring about the result

Its a position of strength to aim for

Lets be honest we dont really care today

But the result today means a lot for others

The Chelsea result was a massive surprise and it was quite clear where the priorities of our manager were.
I do respect that you have been consistent in this point for a few seasons. But my opinion is that we would have done the same and not cared if the application seemed lacking against a team that was fighting for their lives.

There is a rule against it.
You're allowed to field any of your 25 man squad and it not be considered "weakened". However, there is also:

The "Utmost Good Faith" Rule (Rule B.13)
  • The Obligation: All member clubs must behave toward each other and the League with the utmost good faith.
  • The Application: This overarching rule means teams must compete honestly. Intentionally "throwing" a game to hurt a rival's title chances, help a friendly club avoid relegation, or secure a better draft/positional metric is a direct breach of this contractual commitment.

So can we expect West Ham to make an appeal against Villa? I doubt it.
