ars*nal seem to have finally made their mind up on the future of the club, as Spanish outlet Marca states the Gunners have made contact with Athletic Bilbao boss Ernesto Valverde.
Valverde is tipped to leave his Basque employers at the end of the season and has been touted as a potential successor to Luis Enrique at Barcelona, with the Catalan side looking for a new manager at the end of the season.
However, it’s now reported that ars*nal have entered the running for Valverde’s signature and the boss has made it clear previously that he’s keen on testing himself with the challenges that English football presents.
The 53-year-old has managed Athletic Bilbao since 2013, leading the Basque side to their first trophy in 31 years when they won the Spanish SuperCup in 2015, and also guided Athletic to the Champions League in the 2014/15 season.
His impressive management of the La Liga side, which includes adhering to the club’s strict policy of only recruiting players from the Basque region, has earned many plaudits and ars*nal could land themselves a very capable manager in his form.
Potentially battling Barcelona for his signature will be difficult though, as the Catalans boast some of the finest players in world football- whilst ars*nal are likely to spend next season out of the Champions League.
