Week 1 Round Up

Imps2018

Vital Football Hero
Bury 1-0 Yeovil
Cheltenham 0-1 Crawley
Crewe 6-0 Morecambe
Exeter 3-1 Carlisle
Grimsby 1-4 Forest Green
Mansfield 3-0 Newport
Northampton 0-1 IMPS
Notts County 0-0 Colchester
Oldham 1-2 MK Dons
Port Vale 3-0 Cambridge Utd
Stevenage 2-2 Tranmere
Swindon 3-2 Macclesfield

Biggest surprise here is Notts not beating Colchester, not even scoring with their very expensive strike force (which turned expensive for my acca).

A couple of big scorelines (Crewe, Forest Green). Shame Exeter don't seem as weak post Tisdale as we hoped.

Congrats to Ollie scoring on his debut and to Farman for making his debut for Stevenage (although conceding 2).

As Thommo say’s you can have a lot of high cost individuals in a team but will only win with teamwork.

Mansfield and Notts County and quite a few other teams all look unbalanced because of spending too much on strikers. Teams like Port Vale and Crawley may benefit.

I don't get why so many think Notts will win the league. In 2 viewings last season (I know it's not this season) I didn't think they were anything special aside from the Forest lad. Bot games against us, their second most effective weapon was the referee.

A lot of fire power. Not too much past that though. Some good players though. Enough to get them to play offs.

Mansfield spent a lot of money in the close season on Walker and Khan. They scored all three goals yesterday.

Miller scored a nice one for Vale too.

Strikers win promotion. Which teams have the best strikers?

Balance wins promotion. Barnet had Akinde last season, Chesterfield had Dennis last season. 2 strikers expected to be some of the best in the league. Chesterfield and Barnet were very not promoted.

It's only one game but Crewe were my pre-season dark horses. Don't know the full story of Ollie Palmer's departure but I would love to have kept him - I thought he did great last season. I expect him to do well with Crawley
Pity about the amazing Swindon comeback. That's 3 unexpected points for one of our challengers.
Walker and Khan look good recruits for the Stags.

It's only one game though.......

I said when Mansfield signed Khan that he’s a great signing for them. Loss of Digby means not as good at the back and midfield though.

add doidge and eisa... very much top of the league's strikers last year; their teams finished below half way. i agree with balance being one of the main priorities. a strong spine wins you promotion. and over 46 games a decent sized squad is also needed.

yep, crewe - as previously noted - finished the season as the form team, and thrashed us at our place. no other team has done that to cowley. crewe made very little change to their squad over the summer so have less of this 'jelling' that always gets used as an excuse after 5 solid weeks of practice.
