We have our own Sterling

List has great pace and is not short of skill but is let down by end product delivery and not enough goals. Let's hope that his late season goals last term were the start of an improvement

List has the ability (I think). He just needs to get more involved, want the ball more and start delivering. Then who knows - could be a gem or end up lower league. If he gets a good run in the side he could do very well but will he be a bench warmer again? Over to you SL.

I can’t remember List getting enough opportunities to judge his shooting clinicacy (is that a word? It is according to autocorrect). I agree that the end of last season should be a springboard.

Remember Sterling works alongside De Bryne who compliments him brilliantly. Other England players fluffed up plenty of shots each particularly the early games but Sterling was made the scapegoat early on.

If sterling had have missed the opportunity kane missed in extra time then he'd have been slaughtered.

Or the double miss he made to put us 2-0 up. (I'm not remembering wrong here am I?).

Actually, I was wondering about that "shots on target" stat at the end of the game. They reckoned our only attempt on target was our goal. But Kane had at least 2 (3 if you count his follow-up against the post, but I think they count shots against the wood as off-target) plus Stones had the header cleared off the line that looked to be going in.

Not sure how they do these stats.

Think the were discounted as the linesman gave them offside. If he’d scored, VAR would have over-ruled.

You'd think they would count shots that hit the post and come out as off target by definition.

I think the 2 shots on target were the goal and Stones’ header that was cleared off the line.

Both players are unfairly and heavily criticised in my opinion. Sterling is frustrating because he is so quick and skilful that he gets in a lot of scoring positions and doesn't convert enough of them. Paul Scholes has identified that he doesn't strike the ball properly. Surely Guardiola will improve that. List's problem was that he got knocked off the ball too easily but he strikes the ball well.

Back to OP.
I'd love List to fulfil his potential.
This will be a make or break season for him.
I hope that he realises that.

On the subject of subs, I'd actually like to see any sub absolutely busting his balls to have an influence on the game, rather than over thinking everything.
Every time Cundle came on, he made little or no impact and it's cost him.
When a player is only on for the last ten, he should bust a gut to get into the game.
I'm sure that many in non league regret not putting the effort in when they had the chance.

I really can’t see that the likes of Cundle and those before him would have made it in the game if only they’d been arsed.

Elliott List made a strong impact against Bristol, Plymouth, Dartford, I think he will have a major impact from the bench this season.

I know it was only Dartford but he took both goals really well. One strong header into the corner and one nice jink past 2 defenders and an unstoppable shot into the corner. Certainly not our Sterling on that evidence.

Yes Durham, I know it's only a pre season friendly but he was in a completely different class to those I thought looked out of their depth. Being completely ineffectual against players who are 3 divisions below is not promising. Obviously it could just be a bad day for some/all of them and they may turn out to be great. I'm not condeming them and saying they should be junked.

When we beat Ipswich in the last pre-season, Mick McCarthy wasn't worried about the result but the performance of individual players Maybe the same goes for List.
